Georgina Reskala
Rosa Mexicana

About the Item

This captivating landscape photograph emerged from Reskala's year-long exploration of Santa Monica, where she dedicated herself to capturing the essence of a particular location through repeated photography sessions. Her distinctive approach involves continual reinterpretation, as she revisits the same spot time and again, gradually transforming the landscape until it transcends recognition. Reskala's artistic journey has been marked by a unique challenge—an inherent inability to perceive color. In the early stages of her career, she heeded the advice to exclusively work in the realm of black and white photography. However, the constraints of the pandemic prompted her to reconsider this counsel, leading her to experiment with the infusion of moments of color into her creative process.

Michael Eastman, a renowned contemporary photographic artist, has spent five decades capturing interiors and facades worldwide. His large-scale photographs are characterized by precision, monumentality, and skillful use of color. This body of work began nine years ago, photographing iconic tress in Forest Park in his home town of St. Louis, Missouri. With a painterly approach, this image appears to be impressionist rather than photograph. Edition of 5, this piece is custom framed with Optium plexiglass for the show "Shallow Anchors" at Upstart Modern.
