About the Item
Marie Craig's "Crane 2" is an original photograph of architectural ruins partially obscured with vines and branches. This piece was created using cyanotype, an early photographic process which uses sunlight to expose specially treated linen, producing a striking blue-toned image with high contrast and detail. The 36 x 24 x 1 inch portrait-oriented photograph is from the artist's 'Juncture' series, which explores the concept of the overlap between concrete bodies, or still moments, and the life instilled in them. This original print, on ecru linen, is unframed, and has been wrapped onto stretched canvas for stability and wired for ease of hanging. The photo is signed on the back by the artist.
Marie Craig is an award-winning Boston-based contemporary fine art photographer. Her work collectively glorifies objects that were once imbued with life, but have since been abandoned. Craig is represented by Fountain Street Gallery in Boston, MA.

Marie Craig
Marie Craig is an award-winning Boston-based contemporary fine art photographer. Graduating from Clark University, Massachusetts, with a Masters in Biology, Craig began as a medical photographer and illustrator specializing in cell biology for UMass Medical School and Brandeis University. Emerging from the medical sphere, she shifted her role to become a teacher, curator and photographer, all in the fine art community. Craig has shown her work in solo and group exhibitions at Danforth Art, Framingham, COSO, Boston and BigCi Open Day, Australia. She is the co-founder and director of Fountain Street Gallery in Boston. She works from her studio in Natick, Massachusetts.

the landscape in the home. When seeking beauty in the world to distract us, delight us, and
bring us into our own world, we seek something that stirs within us a memory or a dream.
Traditionally, tapestries are a storytelling media as well as décor. This particular work is
constructed from commercially printed tapestries acquired from a Chinese supplier during the
pandemic. These tell a story of arrested, yet ample, desire.
On one side of the piece we see a sunrise from a beach with palm trees. Gently folded over to the right is a second tapestry. In this the artist has chose to expose the desaturated backside which obscures slightly the third tapestry landscape of beach scene around midday. It brings to mind the passage of time much like time lapse photography...
