Reinhard Görner captures the monumentality of the Beinecke Rare Book & Manuscript Library, Yale's principal repository for literary archives, early manuscripts, and rare books. 3 sizes, below.
The Beinecke Rare Book & Manuscript Library is the rare book library and literary archive of the Yale University Library in New Haven, Connecticut. Situated on Yale University's Hewitt Quadrangle, the building was designed by Gordon Bunshaft of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill and completed in 1963.
The building has been called a "jewel box", and also a "laboratory for the humanities". The Modernist structure contains furniture designed by Florence Knoll and Marcel Breuer. It is one of the largest buildings in the world entirely dedicated to rare books and manuscripts.
An elevated public exhibition mezzanine surrounds the glass stack tower, and displays among other things, one of the 48 extant copies of the Gutenberg Bible. Two basement floors extend under much of Hewitt Quadrangle. The first sub-grade level, the "Court" level, centers on a sunken courtyard in front of the Beinecke, which features The Garden (Pyramid, Sun, and Cube). These are abstract allegorical sculptures by Isamu Noguchi that are said to represent time (the pyramid), sun (the disc), and chance (the cube).
German large-scale photographer Reinhard Görner is known for his stunning, monumental-scale photography, which combine a sense of grandness with intimacy. He was born in 1950 in Leipzig, Germany, and he lives and works in Berlin, Germany. He studied drama, german literature and sinology in Munich and Berlin, and has been photographing architecture, interiors, and public spaces since 1981.

An active architecture photographer since 1985, is a master of perspectives and precise spatial compositions, and he thus considers classical sculpture, in all of its possible facets, a special challenge.
"Görner’s photographs sometimes open the doors to another world and take the viewer with them on a journey through time. Here the palace is no longer a museum but both royal residence and a site steeped in history. The viewer does not have to share the halls with the masses of visitors; instead the images offer him exclusive impressions of the Galerie des Glaces (Hall of Mirrors) and the Galerie des Batailles (Hall of Battles) as even the king of France was probably never granted. The halls are empty of people, yet they seem to be able to unfurl their individual characters of their own accord. A former student of the American landscape photographer Ansel Adams, Neil Folberg is known for his color landscapes of the Middle East and black-and-white techniques that champion the wizardry of his master teacher. Born in San Francisco, Folberg became a pupil of Adams at age 17, followed by his education at the University of California at Berkeley and individualized study with landscape photographer William Garnett. By 1976, Folberg had relocated to Jerusalem, where he began producing color landscapes throughout the deserts of Israel, Egypt, and Jordan. Folberg was commissioned by Aperture to document synagogues across the world, followed by a return to black-and-white in a series of night skies among ancient ruins of the Middle East.
He used that same lighting to evoke the colors and light of the French Impressionists in his innovative re-creation of their world (“Travels with Van Gogh and the Impressionists”, Abbeville Press). His current project places man on the stage of nature in brilliantly lit scenes.

This is hand signed and editioned in pencil, on print mount recto; and stamped on the reverse with photographers name and copyright info. In a folding jacket with a printed credit and title. The red title sheet is just here for provenance and reference and is not included in this sale.
The first copy was awarded to the President of the United States, the second to the President of the State of Israel, the third to the Mayor of Jerusalem and the fourth to the Baron Edmond de Rothschild. Artist Statement
“Since my childhood days I always loved taking photos, but for unknown reasons instant film never really caught my attention. After I saw the works of a friend who happened to be a gifted Polaroid photographer, I was totally mesmerized and the desire to shoot with instant film constantly grew in me. But for as long as I can think music has always been my main preoccupation.
I somehow always feel the need to create, but my focus shifted more and more from making music to instant photography and it grew into something much more fulfilling and pure. Sometimes, these two passions even come together when I am able to provide my photos for album artworks – this makes me incredibly happy.
As I always have been very introverted and reclusive I often drift off into my own inner world. The dreamlike landscapes and surreal atmospheres in my work are the visualization and the result of these imaginations.
Another influence on my photography is my essential need to travel the world. But I am not interested in documenting the places I see like they are but rather love to create otherworldly scenes by adding the dreamlike texture of instant film, serving me as a needful escape from reality.”
Artist Biography
Julia Beyer is an analogue photographer from Germany. She mainly works with instant film to express her inner visions that often show dreamlike landscapes and surreal atmospheres. After being more known for her musical endeavors as the singer of the dreampop band Chandeen, she began to delve into this photographic art form in 2014 and since then expands her portfolio continuously. Her work has been published in various international print and online publications.
Since 2017, she is a member of the renowned "12:12 Project", a worldwide collective of female Polaroid photographers.
