About the Item
Providence XV consists of 5 individual panels. The images are archival dye sublimation prints which are heat-transferred to an aluminum substrate, backed with sintra, and channelled aluminum brackets for easy installation. The result yields a clean contemporary presentation of artwork that floats 1 ¼ inches from the wall. Each panel is light weight and hangs easily on just 2 screws.
Artist statement:
Providence began as individual photographs, nearly all of them multiple exposures made during a period of debilitating anxiety. During this time, I took to the road and made photographs while driving – always in motion, trusting my instincts, surrendering the camera to a subconscious guide.
Later, while reviewing the thousands of images, I began to see them as an internal travelog, my longing for beauty amongst the chaos – a search for the sublime.
I began assembling the disparate images into believably contiguous diptychs and polyptychs that represented my current state of mind.
The resulting images are speculative and temporal, depicting environmental scenes in which time and place are indeterminate. They are fictive landscapes that question the veracity of our perception and the limitations of our understanding.
And, they offer hope – just through the trees, over the hills, or beyond the horizon.
