Surreal City. It's Vermont in Manhattan? It's Vermont like autumn colors of oranges, amber, auburn, and crimsons of Central Park trees. They juxtaposed against the steely cold monoliths and deep blue sky of Billionaires Row. The image is about two very opposite worlds living together. To get this image of light on the trees, Mitchell Funk had only a small window in time. Light strikes this spot for just a few hours each year. Being in the right spot major part of the art-making process.

Mitchell Funk is a pioneer of color photography. In 1970, he participated in one of the first color photography shows at the Brooklyn Museum titled “Images en Couleur." In 1971, he was included in the visionary books Frontiers of Photography and Color (Life Library of Photography), both published by Time-Life. He has done more than 50 photography magazine covers, including covers for Newsweek and Life.
