Mitchell Funk
Central Park In Autumn With Billionaires Row Skyscrapers. Surreal City

2020

About the Item

Surreal City. It's Vermont in Manhattan? It's Vermont like autumn colors of oranges, amber, auburn, and crimsons of Central Park trees. They juxtaposed against the steely cold monoliths and deep blue sky of Billionaires Row. The image is about two very opposite worlds living together. To get this image of light on the trees, Mitchell Funk had only a small window in time. Light strikes this spot for just a few hours each year. Being in the right spot major part of the art-making process. This archival color photograph by fine art photographer Mitchell Funk is signed, dated, and numbered 2/15, lower right recto. Other sizes are available and the fine art photograph is unframed. Printed Later. Printed on Hahnemühle Fine Art paper Can a street photograph be a grab shot and precisely designed at the same time? Influenced by a number of photographic peers and precursors such as Candida Höfer, Andreas Gursky, Thomas Struth, Jeff Wall, Michael Wolf, Gregory Crewdson, William Eggleston and Joel Sternfeld, Schott's images successfully blend technical, conceptual and formal rigor with a decisive sense of composition and color. Schott's images have an iconic sensibility and give us a bird's eye view onto humanity and its constructs. The specific is edged towards the abstract, often revealing the compelling and disjunctive moment where nature meets man. Frank Schott was born in Cologne, Germany in 1962. He currently lives and works in San Francisco...
