About the Item
An unexpected detail of a green billboard is shown occupying the full lower left-hand quadrant of a city scene composition. It was shot by street photographer Mitchell Funk from The High Line. The image creates a double-take for the viewer. It provokes a doubletake and fuels questions like, "Is this real?", "What is going on here"? It's actually a straight shot. The billboard's solid flat green color with a portrait in an oval inset is juxtaposed with a wide city street view of lower Manhattan's Chelsea neighborhood. Mitchell Funk
Mitchell Funk is a pioneer of color photography. In 1970, he participated in one of the first color photography shows at the Brooklyn Museum titled “Images en Couleur." In 1971, he was included in the visionary books Frontiers of Photography and Color (Life Library of Photography), both published by Time-Life. He has done more than 50 photography magazine covers, including covers for Newsweek and Life.
