Leaf House
Located in Sante Fe, NM
Reviewing the photographs of Julie Blackmon, critic Leah Ollman of the Los Angeles Times wrote: “Each frame is an absorbing, meticulously orchestrated slice of ethnographic theater … that abounds with tender humor but also shrewdly subtle satire.” Blackmon is a native of Springfield, MO, and her photographs are inspired by her experience of growing up the oldest of nine children—including five sisters—in what she calls “a generic American town in the middle of the U.S.” In college, Blackmon was introduced to the work of artists Sally Mann, Diane Arbus, and Helen Levitt, and she describes herself as “obsessed” with their images. “When my three children were small,” she recalls, “we moved into an old house with a darkroom in the basement. Like any mother, I wanted to take pictures of my kids. But I didn’t want to be just the ‘mother photographer.’ I wanted my work to be more: more penetrating, more artful, more striking, more thoughtful, more a reflection of the times. “Over the next few years, I progressed from making documentary black and white photographs of my life and the lives of my sisters to creating colorful, fictitious images that offered a more fantastical look at everyday life. My work became more conceptual, as I began to realize that I was not obligated to capture “reality” exactly, but that I could work more like a painter or a filmmaker, actively shaping the images I was creating. This realization—that fiction can often capture the truth more memorably than reality—was a major shift in how I saw the world around me, and it transformed my work.” “It’s thrilling to see the most common aspects of everyday life as potential stories or themes for a photograph. It changes how you see things: suddenly, a Starbucks employee on a smoke break, or an outmoded beauty shop catering to an elderly clientele, can spark a memorable image. As Nora Ephron...

Ceramic Pitcher (Still Life Photograph of Lemons, Olives, Zucchini, & Chestnuts)
Located in Hudson, NY
Contemporary color still life photograph of a ceramic pitcher with assorted fruits and vegetables Archival pigment print, ed. of 25 15 x 19.5 inches unframed Signed and editioned, verso In this series, Halliday captures the beauty of everyday life with a contemporary still life image of various objects and vegetation arranged on a wooden plank. The imagery calls to mind a Baroque still life, highlighting the beauty and simplicity found in every day objects. Here a sienna colored ceramic pitcher is captured besides an arrangement of yellow lemons, curly green zucchini, black olives, and brown nuts. The pop of white from the napkin in addition to the stark black background accentuates the simplistic color and shapes of the fruits and vegetables. About the Artist: David Halliday's photographs are about beauty, pure and simple. His primary subjects are carefully composed still lifes, portraits and landscapes which he shoots in black and white film with only natural light. He is a purist behind the lens, rarely manipulating his negatives in any way, and a master in the darkroom. His work has an ethereal quality that's translated not only through the subject, but also by the warm colors and sepia tones he uses in his printing. More about the work: A master of light, David Halliday produces lush and elegant images that are both classical and modern. Celebrated for his ‘purist’ eye, he poetically captures the nude male body in a selection of sepia-toned prints from 1996. Rarely revealing the model's face, Halliday prefers to focus on the natural drape of limbs, soft folds of flawless skin, and curvature of the spine. Overall, a stunningly intimate portrayal of the male form done with elegance and charm. Resume: Born 1958, Glen Cove, New York Lives in Schodack Landing, NY EDUCATION 1998 Penland School of Crafts, Penland, North Carolina 1988 The Maine Photographic Workshops, Rockport, Maine 1976-79 Syracuse University, New York 1974-76 Wooster School Community Art Center, Danbury, Connecticut SELECTED SOLO EXHIBITIONS 2013 Threadbare/New Photographs, Arthur Roger Galley, New Orleans, LA McMurtrey Gallery, Houston, TX 2012 The Past Still Present, Ogden Museum of Southern Art, New Orleans, LA 2010 Arthur Roger Gallery, New Orleans, LA Wessel+O’Connor Fine Art, Lambertville, NJ Julie Heller Gallery, Provincetown, MA Graficas Gallery, Nantucket, MA 2009 Culinary Delights, San Antonio Museum of Art, San Antonio, TX Two Decades: David Halliday, Carrie Haddad Photographs, Hudson, NY 2008 Arthur Roger Gallery, New Orleans, LA Still-Life, Stephen Cohen Gallery, Los Angeles, CA Carrie Haddad Gallery, Hudson, NY Watermark Gallery, Houston TX Strange Fruit: David Halliday and Greg Kuharic...

On Broadway, New York City (1955) - Large size Black & White Fine Art Print
Located in Brussels, BE
Artwork # 1 on 5 sold in limited edition in perfect condition This photo was made in 1955, the negative was digitized during the artist's lifetime and the technical parameters (framing, contrast, light, etc.) was approved by him. This is a very high quality fine art prints on 310 gr/m² Fine Art paper with museum quality pigment inks. “ On Broadway, near Trinity Church”, New York December 1955. A rainy Sunday morning, a solitary pedestrian seems to be falling over on the slippery surface. As is always the case with Fabrizio La Torre’s photographs, quite apart from the artistic merit, this picture invites us to speculate what is the story behind it: why this deserted avenue at 11:10 on that particular morning, what was the man in the rain doing, why is that car defiantly parked right underneath a no parking sign...

Cut in Stone, Rhino, black and white, animal, Africa, Photography
Located in München, BY
"Cut in Stone" Kenya 2019 Edition No. 9/12 Print size 37 x 28 cm signed and numbered Framed with mat and anti-reflex glass A white Rhino is standing in the morning mist. Joachim Schmeisser is represented by leading Galleries worldwide. His photographs are among the most sought-after and best-selling works in this genre worldwide and earned him an ever-growing following amongst art collectors. Born in 1958, has made a name for himself in various branches of photography. As an advertising photographer, the Munich native started working for international companies in the 1980s, and he was a pioneer in analogue compositing with his use of multiple exposures. But photography can be so much more than technical skill and a joy in experimentation. Building on his intense interest in his subject matter, his deeply personal view of the world, and his special way of seeing and self-expression, he has developed an equally unique and compelling visual language. This particularly characterizes the independent artistic work he has been creating since 2009 in places such as Ghana, Tanzania, and Kenya. With his iconic wildlife portraits, Joachim Schmeisser has gained widespread acclaim, receiving the prestigious Hasselblad Masters Award for his work in 2012. Several books of his photography have been issued by renowned publishing houses. His photographic work stands out from other artists in this genre and his unique visual language is often tried to be copied but never achieved. THE ETERNAL SUBLIME His deep interest in and his unique view of the world are what contribute to the profound impact of Joachim Schmeisser’s work. His photographs are always difficult to describe because they transcend the familiar and depict that which was once hidden, making it tangible. Joachim Schmeisser is world famous for his iconic images of Africa...

The Robin Rice Gallery reserves the right to adjust this price depending on the current edition of the photograph. ABOUT: For the last two years Mark and Kristen have collaborated using one of the earliest photographic methods, collodion wet plate to create ambrotypes on glass and tintypes on aluminum. They use a 1860 style view camera to create one-of-a-kind images, which become windows into an intimate, romantic, and beautiful world of faces, still lives, nudes, and landscapes. In this demanding process, the collodion coated tin or glass plates are immersed in a silver nitrate solution, and then they must be exposed in the camera and developed while still wet. Serendipitous flaws and beautiful imperfections are an inevitable part of this imprecise hands-on process. This show includes a combination of 24 tintypes and ambrotypes, which are 8x10 and smaller in size. Their intimate sizes ask the viewers to look closer and spend more time with these photographs to fully appreciate their power. — A welcome antidote to today's nonstop, ¬instantaneous imagery. Paradoxically, this intersection of past and present gives these pieces an unmistakably contemporary feel. The two collaborators deliberately play up the ambiguity of time. The nudes (some recalling E.J. Bellocq's alluring portraits of New Orleans prostitutes in 1912) are suffused with freshness and sensuality, even eroticism at times, with nearly all of them coming off as refined rather than crass. Fredrick Scott Archer developed the collodion process in 1851. Artists such as Julia Margaret Cameron, Lewis Carroll, William Henry Jackson and Civil War photographer Mathew Brady used the process, due to its cost and versatility advantages. In addition Sink and Hatgi’s work can also be seen revived in contemporary artists work...
