About the Item
"Standing at 16 ft tall, "Brick House" is a bronze statue made by artist Simone Leigh as an inaugural commission of the High Line Plinth (NYC) in 2019, which crosses 10th Avenue at W 30th St. I lived on W 19th St & 10th Ave for over 10 years and so therefore have a powerful connection to this area. I shot this scene at around 5pm on March 29, 2020 at the height of the 1st wave of the pandemic that gravely affected NYC. The city was blanketed with a fog, and combined with the unprecedented shutdown that resulted in practically no cars on the road, I couldn't imagine a more perfect imagery that defined the desolation and eerie feel of the time for the people of NYC and of the world, as anchored by the silhouette of a powerful symbol of a black woman that stood for strength, endurance & integrity as in a house made of bricks. The statue has since been moved, so this image is 100% for certain will never be seen again. "
