Braque painted the two birds in front of an eventful bluish-grey background. Their forms absorb the black color of the ground, one of the wings melts in with the horizon. The slim, tall format of this graphic and the cool shades of color radiate the evening sky.

Documentation / References:
French painter, collagist and sculptor Georges Braque is, along with Pablo Picasso, renowned as the co-founder of Cubism, which revolutionized 20th-century painting. In his work, objects are fragmented and reconstructed into geometric forms, fracturing the picture plane in order to explore a variety of viewpoints.
In this work, we can admire an abstract composition with a lead-gray sky, like in a thunderstorm. We can make out the three letters BIO, spread out over the work like design elements. A bird lying on its back at the bottom of the painting.
