About the Item

This artwork titled "Anatomy" 1993, is an original colors woodcut on paper by noted Japanese artist Akira Kurosaki, 1937-2019. It is hand signed, dated, titled and numbered 64/95 in pencil by the artist. The artwork (image) size is 21 x 14.75 inches, framed size is 28.25 x 21.5 inches. Custom framed in original wooden black and silver frame, with off-white matting. It is in excellent condition, the frame have small minor rubs, About the artist: Akira Kurosaki was born in Dalien, Manchuria on January 10, 1937. While still a student in junior high, his father arranged for Akira to study painting with Tsuguro Ito in Ashiya. When it was time to plan for university studies, his father forbade him from studying painting as he felt his son could not make a living as an artist. In 1956 Kurosaki entered he Kyoto Institute of Technology where he studied in the Department of Design and received his B.A. degree in 1962. Almost immediately after earning his degree, he began teaching part-time until 1968. His first solo color woodcut exhibition was mounted at Shimanouchi Gallery in Osaka in 1965. Kurosaki has traveled the world as a visiting professor, artist in residence, and lecturer. He served on the international juries or as a chairman of the Executive Committee for various International Print Biennales. His work is represented in the collections of the Kyoto City Art Museum, Museum of Modern Art in Kamakura, National Museum of Art in Osaka, Hokkaido Museum of Modern Art in Sapporo, National Museum of Modern Art in Tokyo, Bellas Artes National Museum in Santiago, Bibliotheque nationale in Paris, National Museum of Krakow, Museum of Modern Art in New York, Library of Congress in Washington, Los Angeles County Museum, Achenbach Foundation for Graphic Arts in San Francisco, and the British Museum and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.

About the artist: Thang Kiang How was born in 11th Sept.1946 in Malaysia Kiang How received the Public Service Medal (PBM) awarded by the President of Singapore in 1981 for his contribution to Singapore Nation Building. In the past 30 years, he has been an active participant in local and international art scenes. His unique technique of blending acrylic and airbrush printing effect on canvas and paper has become his trademark in the art circle and is constantly involved in major art projects (sculpture and murals). He has held 12 solo exhibitions and participated in more than 100 group exhibitions in countries, such as Australia, China, France, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, Thailand, Vietnam and also Singapore. He received many local and international awards.His works are collected by local as well as overseas museums, organizations and private collectors. He was the President of Modern Art Society Singapore (1982 – 1993), Vice President of Federation of Art Societies Singapore (1990 – 1996) and sits on the panel in National Arts Council (1984 – 1993). However, he was the person brought MASS onto a regional platform, Asian International Art Exhibition (AIAE) hosting by members in Federation of Asian Artists (FAA) yearly in 1990.
