In Jalü, which means rainbow in Tibetan, colors are ready made, displaying themselves unobstructively in an ever-changing dance of ephemeral iridescence. Samelson's capture of this color dance on her ceilings and walls in her photographs are available as archival digital prints, in editions of 5, reproduced both on paper and on canvas.
Andra Samelson is a multi-media artist whose work explores the relationship of microcosm and macrocosm, the celestial and terrestrial. Originally from Denver, Colorado, Samelson currently lives and works in both New York City and Delhi, NY.
She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Sarah Lawrence College and is a recipient of fellowships from the New York Foundation for the Arts, the Corporation of Yaddo, and the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts.
Samelson’s work has been exhibited extensively in galleries and museums throughout the United States and Europe and her public artwork, commissioned by New Jersey Transit, is permanently on view at the Hudson Bergen Light Rail’s Second Street Station in Hoboken, NJ.
She has been a visiting artist at the University of Virginia and the ceramics factory Ditta Grazia Majoliche Artistiche in Deruta, Italy and she has given talks about her work at NYU, Pratt Art Institute, PBS and Artists Talk on Art.
Her work has been reproduced and reviewed in the New York Times, Art Forum, New York Arts, New American Painting and elsewhere, and is represented in several private and public collections including the Rubin Museum of Art, the Library of Congress, Chase Manhattan Bank, Dow Jones, and the Loyola University Museum of Art.
Most recently the 9/11 Memorial Museum acquired two of her large scale paintings for their permanent collection.

Andra Samelson
Andra Samelson is a multimedia artist and her prints, drawings, paintings, sculpture and installations have been exhibited extensively in galleries and museums throughout the United States and Europe. Diane Lachman’s photographic pandemic project began in March 2020, when Covid 19 forced us to shelter at home. After a year of experimentation with the refraction of natural light through prisms, she created complex and vibrant images that reflect our experiences during these tumultuous times. By observing the change of the position and quality of light and shadow each day, she developed a new sense of the passage of time. Her photographs reflect the desolate days of this period as well as the bright days when we experienced hope. The "Silent Echo" series recalls the strange quiet and isolation she experienced during the shut down. The daily act of photographing the color and light gave her a sense of balance and purpose.
Lachman’s inventive abstract paintings and photographs emphasize the expressive power of color. Her work has been the subject of twelve solo shows. Most recently, an exhibition of her pandemic photography project: “Refracted World” was shown in July 2021 at Muse Gallery in Philadelphia. She participates in many juried and invitational group shows. Currently, Lachman is the acting director of Muse Gallery in Philadelphia where she has been a member since 2010. Her paintings are represented in numerous private and corporate collections, including Temple University School of Medicine, the Howard Gittis Student Center Art Collection at Temple, the Art Collection at Park Towne Place in Philadelphia, and the Lankenau Medical Center.
Lachman studied at Rhode Island School of Design and the Cleveland Institute of Art. She earned her BFA and MFA degrees at the University of Pennsylvania, where she taught drawing and color theory from 1993 to 2013.
