Arthur Turner
Arthur Turner was born in Houston, Texas in 1940. He still works and lives in Houston. He received his BA from North Texas State University in Denton, Texas. Later, in 1966, he earned his MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. Awards include: First Award, Clear Lake Arts Alliance Exhibition, Houston, Texas, 2000; Travel grant from Glassell School of Art, Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, Texas, 1992; Selected for Outstanding Educator of America Awards Program, 1973; First Award, Corpus Christi Art Foundation Annual Exhibition, Art Museum of South Texas, Corpus Christi, Texas, 1973; First Purchase Award, Beaumont Art Museum, 20th Annual Exhibition, 1971; and Purchase Prize, 22nd Annual Texas Watercolor Society Exhibition, San Antonio, Texas, 1971.

Fluhr was born in New York City in 1955 and moved to Texas to work as an artist. Beginning with ceramics at age 15 and showing at Ola Podrida Gallery in Dallas, he moved on to the University of Texas at Austin. Fluhr received his BFA from the University of Houston followed by an MFA in printmaking at the prestigious Cranbrook Academy of Art in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, where he graduated magna cum laude. He traveled extensively, painting life along the way in watercolor, oil or acrylic, usually on recycled materials, such as paper bags, pamphlets, and receipts. Fluhr exhibited in six galleries in the United States and several galleries in Mexico, where he also maintained a studio in the late 1980s. His mother was usually found combining cultures at home, and his father, a Materials Scientist and Engineer often brought him to the lab. The daily experimentations happening around him, both personal and scientific, would later inform his work. While his parents wanted him to follow more straightforward career paths, he was the first in his family to eschew their expectations and pursue art and music instead. Malghan went on to receive an MFA in Photography from Savannah College of Art and Design - Hong Kong. Here he experimented in a darkroom, bleaching film, adding watercolor to glass plates, thinly cross-sectioning fruits and vegetables until they formed abstractions, beginning his exploration into the repurposing of materials. In his twenties, Malghan was diagnosed with Leukemia, the treatment of which resulted in avascular necrosis, a bone disease that eventually required numerous surgeries and three hip replacements. His experience through illness and recovery not only led him to photography, but also informs his manipulation of raw, often overlooked materials in order to reorient our understanding of beauty, pleasure, and purpose. Malghan has been exhibited across the country and has lectured in Hong Kong, India, the University of Texas, the University of Notre Dame - Maryland, and UMLAUF Sculpture & Design Museum.
