About the Item
Guided by Starlight is a mixed-media print created by Bik Chuen Ha in 1993. Using a geometric and abstract visual language, Ha constructs a composition where black and gray-green shapes intertwine to form a figure resembling a human or bird, standing upright with quiet strength. To the side, circular and triangular forms merge into a star and moon motif, their red and yellow tones symbolizing light and guidance in the night. Through heavy embossing and layered textures, Ha gives the surface a sculptural depth, while the restrained palette and clean lines create a sense of calm mystery.
Beyond its formal experimentation, the work reflects a meditation on the human spirit. It conveys faith and courage in finding direction through darkness. This print exemplifies Ha’s mature command of geometry, texture, and symbolism in the 1990s, seamlessly merging abstraction with philosophical reflection and the timeless search for light.
