Brigitte Parusel
Brigitte Parusel, After Albers #5, 2016, Giclée Print

2016

About the Item

Brigitte Parusel's works are underlined by an emphasis on experimentation and her interest in working within the limitations of a system. Her drawings are part of an ongoing exploration of a geometric pattern of interconnected circles. The pattern is the basis for her large-scale installations, spatial sculptures and folded works. The drawings explore the geometric relationship of the patterns components and its potential as a blueprint for constructing form, shape and structure. Brigitte Parusel's animation 'After Albers' is based on Josef Albers' ‘Structural Constellation, Transformation of a Scheme No. 12'. She developed the animation through experimenting with code as material for the creation of artwork. By translating Albers's drawing into code the structure has been developed into a three-dimensional rotating object. The prints are stills from the animation; with added color they show two objects moving through space. Bio Originally from Hamburg, Brigitte Parusel moved to London in 1994. In 2011 she completed an MA in Fine Art at Wimbledon College. Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, including Royal Academy of Arts, Barbican Arts Trust, Barbican Centre, The Nunnery, Whitechapel Gallery, ICA, Northern Print, Newcastle, Pulchri Studio, Den Haag. In 2014 she was Artist in Residence at Robofold, a studio specialized in curved folding in metal, where she worked with parametric design and CAD software. She is a member of Art in Perpetuity Trust (APT) in London where she has a studio.

Papillion, 2018 Giclée print on Archival Cotton Paper. Acid and Lignin-free. The painting is a limited edition Giclée print, created using high-quality archival cotton paper, ensuring its longevity and preserving the intricate details of the artwork. The central image of the composition features a butterfly, but instead of traditional organic patterns, it is formed by a captivating arrangement of geometric figures. The butterfly serves as the focal point of the painting, capturing the viewer's attention with its bold and vibrant colors. Shades of fuchsia, blue, orange, green, white, black, yellow, and light blue interplay harmoniously, creating a visually striking and energetic composition. Upon closer inspection, one can discern that the butterfly's wings are constructed using a meticulous arrangement of various geometric shapes. As the viewer's gaze explores the painting, they may notice that within the composition, there are additional elements arranged in the form of eyes. These eyes, composed of circles of varying sizes and triangles, lend an intriguing depth and surreal quality to the artwork. They evoke a sense of introspection and invite contemplation about the interplay of perception and reality. Papillion, 2018 Giclée print on Archival Cotton Paper. Pop Style- Limited Edition Abstract Prints - Spring Rosy Clouds #11 The piece is signed and numbered, limited edition of 99 A.P About Spring Rosy Clouds The highly conceptual series has drawn materials from the rocks of Chinese Gardens. Garden rocks, viewed as mountains -the larger world of nature in microcosm, often supplanted actual scenery as sources of inspiration for images of landscape. Whether it’s garden design or Chinese landscape painting, one of the most important considerations is the harmonious arrangement of elements expressing different aspects of yin( metaphor of feminity) and yang(metaphor of masculinity). In this series, the artist uses digital techniques to combine the image of flower (feminity) and rocks (masculinity), expressing the vitality of life. Behind the simple lines lie an outstanding creating ability of lines that have long set the artist apart. The pink color, along with the implied meaning of Spring in the title of work suggests implicitly the repressed sexual concept in East, revealing in a moderate tone the artist’s insight about contemporary Chinese culture.
