About the Item
'Brigitte Parusel's screen prints, drawings and sculptures are part of an ongoing exploration of a geometric pattern of interconnected circles. Her works might appear carefully planned, but they emerge from repeatedly testing and experimenting with what a material or process will allow her to do.
Her screen prints are part of this exploration. All 7 prints here are in the series ‘Spatial Hybrid’. They are monochrome screen prints of the same motif, which gets folded in different ways. The interaction between light and form creates the illusion that the print is made of more then one colour.
Brigitte uses acrylic metallic paint to enhance the reflection of light. The three silver prints have an edition of 5, but only three works are still available of each print.
The coloured prints share the same folding pattern but one is Convex and one Concave. They work well together either the two tones or by grouping them Convex/Convex or Concave/Concave. The edition is 2.
Her drawings are a means of visualizing the geometric relationship within the circular pattern and show her interest in working within the limitations of a system. Through drawing she investigating the potential of the circular pattern as a blue print for constructing form, shape and structure.'
Originally from Hamburg, Brigitte Parusel moved to London in 1994.
In 2011 she completed an MA in Fine Art at Wimbledon College.
Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, including Royal Academy of Arts, Barbican Arts Trust, Barbican Centre, The Nunnery, Whitechapel Gallery, ICA, Northern Print, Newcastle, Pulchri Studio, Den Haag.
In 2014 she was Artist in Residence at Robofold, a studio specialized in curved folding in metal, where she worked with parametric design and CAD software.
She is a member of Art in Perpetuity Trust (APT) in London where she has a studio.
