Christina Massey is a mixed media artist working in both two and three dimensional work. Her series of monoprint collages began during her SIP (Studio Immersion Project) Fellowship at the efa Robert Blackburn Printmaking Workshop in 2017. Her work utilizes multiple experimental adaptations and techniques from linocut, collagraph, image transfer and silkscreen which are all hand printed, individually hand cut and collaged together to create the completely unique and individual work of the “collection.”
Massey uses the term “collection” for this work rather than the traditional “series” as a reference to the fashion industry’s tendency to market and create lines of clothing revolved around the seasons. Heavily influenced by textiles and the fiber arts, the works are intentionally fabric-like with a vintage nostalgic feeling to them. This is a nod and reference to how the season’s are no longer what they used to be and now unpredictable due to the changes in our environment. The abstracted botanical references in her work hint to her underlining inspiration, that of nature and the environment and how Climate Change affects aspects of consumerism.
