About the Item

Claire Seidl Description Without Place (Hand Signed), 1986 Lithograph and silkscreen. Hand signed, dated and numbered 17/65 by the artist. 28 × 38 1/2 inches Unframed Gorgeous Abstract Expressionist silkscreen and lithograph by abstract artist Claire Seidl. She exhibits her work at museums and galleries nationally, in Europe and in Asia. She has had 25 one-person shows and is currently represented by Lesley Heller Gallery in New York, where she lives, and June Fitzpatrick Gallery in Maine where she also maintains a studio. She has shown paintings and photographs at the Portland Museum of Art, the Center for Maine Contemporary Art, the McNay Art Museum, the Aldrich Museum, and the Noyes Museum. BIOGRAPHY Claire Seidl has been an abstract painter for forty years and a photographer for twenty. She grew up in Connecticut and moved to New York City after receiving her BFA from the College of Visual and Performing Arts at Syracuse University. She received her MFA in Painting from Hunter College, City University of New York and taught in the art department at Hunter College for a decade. Seidl went on to study photography at the International Center for Photography and then taught in the art department of Hofstra University for five years. She now lives and works in New York City and in Rangeley, Maine. ​ Seidl exhibits nationally and internationally, has had 40 solo shows, and has participated in over 100 group shows. Some museum and University venues include the Aldrich Museum, Noyes Museum, McNay Art Museum, South Bend Museum, The Baker Museum, Ewing Gallery at University of Tennessee, Murray State University, KY, Hamilton College, Haverford College, College of William and Mary, Virginia Commonwealth University, DePauw University; Newcastle Polytechnic, England, Novosibirsk State Art Museum, Moscow Museum of Modern Art, Russian Museum of Photography, Portland Museum of Art, Ogunquit Museum, Zillman Art Museum at University of Maine, Bates College Museum of Art, University of New England, University of New England, Center for Contemporary Art in Maine, Bates College Museum of Art. In 2022 solos shows included, “If It’s Not One Thing It’s Another” at 1GAP Gallery in Brooklyn and “Violets Are Blue” at David Richard Gallery in NYC and “Claire Seidl and Rose Marasco” at Maine Museum of Photographic Arts in Portland. Seidl is a member of American Abstract Artists.
