Provenance: private collection - American glass artist Marvin Lipofsky, Berkeley, CA; likely acquired directly from the exhibition at Ferus Gallery, Los Angeles, CA in 1966. Printed in two colors: orange and black. Poster produced for a special exhibition of Kelly's work "New Work by Ellsworth Kelly" at Ferus Gallery, Los Angeles, CA from March 15 - April 20, 1966. The image featured on this poster is Kelly's 1959, 67" x 63" x 17", painted aluminum sculpture "Gate", (EK No. 228; Waldman No. 39; Paik page 150-151). The work is today within the permanent collection of the Walker Art Center, Minneapolis, MN. Bottom edge of sheet is deckled.
"New Work by Ellsworth Kelly" was presented by Ferus Gallery in his first ever solo show in Los Angeles, CA. The exhibition included four paintings and a sculpture including the expansive "Green Red Yellow Blue", (EK No. 351), spanning twenty-one feet wide with four separate panels. The other four works exhibited were "Blue Red", (EK No. 333), "Red Green Blue", (EK No. 332), "Dark Blue Red", (EK No. 346), and "Gate", (EK No. 228).

Biography:
Ellsworth Kelly (May 31, 1923 – December 27, 2015) was an American painter, sculptor, and printmaker associated with hard-edge painting, Color Field painting and minimalism. His works demonstrate unassuming techniques emphasizing simplicity of form, similar to the work of John McLaughlin and Kenneth Noland. Kelly often employed bright colors. He lived and worked in Spencertown, New York.
