Sheet size: 36.63" x 29.88" Image size: 31.69" x 25.63" Condition: Never framed, has been professionally stored away for decades. In excellent condition Rare Notes: Provenance: private collection - Fort Lauderdale, FL; acquired directly from the printer Twitchell-Nichols Printmakers, New York, NY. Numbered by Davis in pencil lower left. Printed in six colors. Unidentified publisher's chop mark/blind stamp (Abstraction Partners, Ltd.?) lower right. Biography: Gene Davis (August 22, 1920 - April 6, 1985) was an American Color Field painter known especially for his paintings of vertical stripes of color. Known for his dazzling and immediately recognizable stripe paintings, Gene Davis emerged from the ranks of the Washington Color School to national prominence. Davis, who helped make Washington, D.C., a center of contemporary art, played a significant national and international role in the color abstraction movement.
