Günther Förg
Günther Förg (5 December 1952 – 5 December 2013) was a German painter, graphic designer, sculptor and photographer. His abstract style was influenced by American abstract painting. Förg was born in Füssen, Allgäu. His father, Michael, worked in a customs office. He studied from 1973 until 1979 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich with Karl Fred Dahmen. From 1992 until 1999, he taught at the Staatliche Hochschule für Gestaltung in Karlsruhe. From 1999 on he was a professor in Munich. He had a home in Areuse, Switzerland, as well as in Freiburg. In 1993 he married Ika Huber. His paintings of geometric abstraction, intensely tinted, have a very strong decorative character. Förg combined diverse materials and media in painting, sculpture, and photography. The themes of his large-scale architectural photographs are Bauhaus aesthetics and fascism, while his monochrome wall art and lead paintings are reflections on art. In the field of photography, his central masterpieces are the works at Wittgenstein House, Casa Malaparte, Casa del Fascio and more, from 1980-2006. In a recent exhibition, Q2 2009 in Berlin, «60 Jahre / 60 Werke» on the 60th anniversary of the Federal Republic of Germany, Förg's photography was represented by 5 outstanding photographs: "Ida", 1985/86 (180x120cm ); "Treppenhaus München", 1986 (180x120cm); "Michaela", 1986 (180x120cm), "Asilo d'infanzia, Sant Elia, Como", 1986, (180x120cm), "Asilo d'Infanzia, Sant Elia, Como", 1986 (180x120cm). Förg was mentioned in «Art now vol. 3”, Taschen Verlag, 2009 as one of the 133 most interesting living artists. According to Artinvestor Magazine, 2009, Förg ranks globally as number 23 when several factors are combined, including a collector base, auction results, and gallery network.
He died, aged 61, in Colombier, Neuchâtel, Switzerland. Exhibitions Förg had his first solo exhibition at Rüdiger Schöttle Gallery, Munich, in 1980 with a series of monochrome paintings. In 1992, his work could be seen at the documenta IX, followed by an exhibition at the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam in 1995. Förg has had solo exhibitions at Essl Museum, Klosterneuburg, Austria, Langen Foundation, Neuss, Germany, Kunstmuseum Basel, Switzerland; Kunsthalle Bremen, Germany; Gemeentemuseum Den Haag, The Netherlands; Tel Aviv Museum of Art, Tel Aviv, Kunsthaus Bregenz, Bregenz, Austria, Museum der Stadt Füssen, Füssen, Germany, and Deutsche Guggenheim, Berlin, Germany.

The school's much-revered headmaster, Paul Nevill, used to tell pupils that it was "a great luxury" to be taught by such a noted classics teacher. His love of classics was not, though, confined to the classroom, and he composed much Latin and Greek prose, even publishing a volume of his .own work, Versions (Oxford .University Press). Shewring was involved, in his youth, with Eric Gill's community at Pigotts in Buckinghamshire, and through Gill, he came to know such notables as Ezra Pound, Hilaire Belloc...Category

- Howard Hodgkin Late Afternoon in the Museum of Modern Art abstract black whiteBy Howard HodgkinLocated in New York, NYAbstract black, white and tan print of interior scene with dots, lines, shadow and painted brushstroke texture. Ideal for display in minimalist, modern and contemporary spaces. While British pop artists such as David Hockney and Patrick Caulfield numbered amongst Howard Hodgkin's circle of friends, Hodgkin's work is painterly, expressionist, and abstract. Late Afternoon in the Museum of Modern Art by Howard Hodgkin. Soft-ground etching on buff BFK Rives mould-made paper. Edition 100: this impression 36/100. Signed by the artist, numbered 36/100, and dated 79 lower center in red crayon. Printed from the same plate as Early Evening in the Museum of Modern Art. Published by Petersburg Press. This print depicts an abstracted scene, perhaps a sculpture in front of a window in the Museum of Modern Art, Oxford, in Hodgkin's signature painterly style. The expressive mark-making in this print is an example of the artist’s movement in the late 70s towards pronounced gestures. Hodgkin used his hand as a mark-making tool, combining these textures with loose and urgent brushwork. Howard Hodgkin was introduced to the etching technique used in Late Afternoon in the Museum of Modern Art at Petersburg Press, where this print was produced and where he would become a long-time collaborator. This technique allowed him to work fluidly and spontaneously, creating the moody interior scenes that mark Hodgkin’s work from the late 70s and early 80s. Part of a series of four prints reflecting on a visit to the Museum...Category

- Artist and Model Howard Hodgkin abstracted orange and black watercolor gouacheBy Howard HodgkinLocated in New York, NYLarge black and marigold orange abstract interior scene of a bust in front of a window with fingerprints and painterly brushstrokes. Rich color and texture ideal for hanging in minimalist, contemporary and modern living spaces. Signed by the artist with initials, dated 1980, and numbered lower center in red crayon. Soft-ground etching with hand coloring on Stoneridge mould-made etching paper. This print is one of a group of soft-ground etchings (Artist and Model, Artist and Model (in green and yellow), Those…Plants). The two versions of Artist and Model are printed from the same plates, but in different colors. In this iteration, marigold orange contrasts beautifully with rich black ink. Seen in all three prints is a bust in silhouette before a window. Artist and Model is a surprising name, as Hodgkin never painted or drew from a model. Howard Hodgkin was introduced to the etching technique used in Artist and Model at Petersburg Press, where this print was produced and where he would become a long-time collaborator. This technique allowed him to work fluidly and spontaneously, creating the moody interior scenes that mark Hodgkin’s work from the late 70s and early 80s.
