This artwork titled "Autumn Fans" 1982, is an original colors lithograph by noted Japanese/American artist Hiroshi Murata, b.1941. It is hand signed, dated, titled and numbered 38/80 in pencil by the artist. With the blind stamp of the printer and publisher. The artwork (image) size is 4.10 x 3.10 inches, paper sheet size is 13.5 x 10 inches, framed size is 22 x 17.25 inches. Custom framed in a wooden silver frame, with grey/brown matting and silver color fillet. is in excellent condition, the frame have two very small minor restorations, practically invisible.
About the artist:
ased in Santa Fe, NM, Hiroshi Murata earned his BFA from Rhode Island School of Design, Providence, and an MFA from Yale University School of Art and Architecture, New Haven, CT. Murata was an associate professor of art at Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo, and professor of art at the College of New Jersey, Ewing Township.
Since retiring from the College of New Jersey in 1991, Murata has worked on paintings and completed numerous public commissions. His work has been featured in solo exhibitions in Japan and the United States, including Gallery Tokyo Eizo, Tokyo; Gumps Gallery, San Francisco, CA; and New Jersey State Museum, Trenton.
Murata is the recipient of grants and fellowships including a Fabric Workshop and Museum, Philadelphia, residency from the Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation; distinguished research award and faculty research grant from the College of New Jersey; visiting-artist fellowship at Brandywine Workshop and Archives, Philadelphia; and National Endowment for the Arts visual arts fellowship.
His work is in public collections including de Cordova Museum and Sculpture Garden, Lincoln, MA; Art and Culture Center of Hollywood, FL; Miami-Dade Community College, Miami, FL; Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; National Museum of Modern Art, Kyoto, Japan; National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo; Whitney Museum of American Art, New York Public Library, and Pratt Graphics Center, New York City; Tokyo University of the Arts; and Zimmerli Art Museum at Rutgers University, New Brunswick, NJ.

This exceptional color lithograph is an excellent example of Stanley William Hayter’s iconic printmaking. He is the founder of Atelier 17, and as such, one of the most influential printmakers of the 20th century. Volubilis was published in 1969, and is B&M 331 in the catalog raisonne. The print is in good condition aside from soft handling creases, stray printing ink in the lower right corner, 6 in. surface rub upper left corner which is barely visible upon very close inspection. Please see photographs.
Stanley William Hayter CBE (27 December 1901 – 4 May 1988) was an English painter and printmaker associated in the 1930s with surrealism and from 1940 onward with abstract expressionism. Regarded as one of the most significant printmakers of the 20th century, in 1927 Hayter founded the legendary Atelier 17 studio in Paris.
