About the Artist: Lewis Lee Tilley was born in Parrott, GA, in 1921. He demonstrated early artistic talent, earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Georgia. Tilley worked as the Art Editor of the Atlanta Journal magazine section, and later gained experience in radio as Director of a station in McComb, MS. His artistic journey took a significant turn when he became a protégé of Boardman Robinson at the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center, where he further honed his craft. In addition to being an accomplished artist, Tilley had a diverse career as a writer, designer-illustrator, and producer-director for Alexander Film Co., which produced motion picture commercials and documentaries. He also earned his MFA from the University of Guanajuato, Instituto de Allende, Mexico. Tilley authored several notable works, including "Booklet Design and Production" for The Nigerian Teacher magazine and "The History of Writing and Printing" for the Northern Nigerian Ministry of Education. His articles have appeared in magazines such as American Home, Architectural Forum, and Leica Photography. Tilley’s work remains influential in the American Modernist movement, with a unique blend of abstraction and fine craftsmanship that continues to captivate collectors today.
