David Barnett'Human Geography' original signed mixed media artwork2006
2006
About the Item
Originally drawn in 1964 while Barnett was still in high school, ‘Human Geography’ depicts an anthropomorphic figure assembled from the continents. Featuring the simultaneous points of view characteristic of Cubism and artists like Pablo Picasso, the figure is seen playing with the Earth on a yo-yo string. Unique to this print, Barnett has highlighted Ghana to mark his visit to the country in 2006. Considering both the composition's original context and Barnett's later embellishments, this piece spans over forty years and connects the artist's early passions with his current practices.

David Barnett, an artist, collector, appraiser and gallerist has been passionate about art from the early age of five. David’s career as an art dealer began at age nineteen when, as a fine arts student, he sponsored an exhibition of work by fellow student artists. In 1966, he opened his first gallery in a converted basement apartment at Wisconsin Avenue and 21st Street. In 1985 David moved his gallery from Wisconsin Avenue into the Old Button Mansion on State Street and has been active ever since. David’s talents for recognizing undervalued artists and for meeting the needs of art lovers, art collectors and artists have created a vibrant, flourishing gallery and collection of over 6,000 works of art.
David was born and raised in Wisconsin. He has been painting in watercolors, acrylics, oil pastels as well as fine art photography. David has more than 10 different series he has developed over the years. They include Abstract, Surrealism, Morph Dog, Up North Birch Bark, Impressions of Mexico City, Southwest, Fireworks, Famous Artist Paying Homage and Garden Panorama. Influential artists include Vermeer, Miro, Kandinsky, Chagall, Nolde and Klee. David has been featured in many magazines, newspapers and public television programs regarding his beautiful gallery, collection and knowledge and passion of fine art. David also has work in the permanent collection Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art, Arizona.
Since its opening in 1966, The David Barnett Gallery has flourished to become Wisconsin's premier gallery and has the most diverse range of art available in any Wisconsin gallery, including works of art that represent more than 600 artists. The gallery also offers custom framing, art appraisals, installation services, consulting services and more. David Barnett has been appraising art as an accredited member of the Appraisers Association of America since 1975 and he is one of approximately only 2,000 personal property appraisers in the United States with the Uniformed Standards of Professional Appraiser Practice Certification.
The David Barnett Gallery specializes in European and American masters, regional and nationally recognized artists, and "emerging" Wisconsin artists. Latin American, Asian, and African American artists also adorn the gallery along with Ethnographic art from Africa, Indonesia, and Oceania. - 'Untitled' original 1960s signed serigraph silver abstract vintage train pop artLocated in Milwaukee, WIIn this untitled serigraph, Vincent DiMattio combines the aesthetics of the space age with Pop Art sensibilities and techniques. In the postwar era of the 1950s and 1960s, the United States was in the midst of a period of economic growth for the middle class, and so the trappings and imagery of middle class life became the subjects of a number of artists. While figures like Andy Warhol focused on images of celebrities and soup cans, here DiMattio looks to robots and rockets. At the far left, a figure appears with a round green head and a small clamping arm. To the right, a form like a tank with phallic protrusions, one with a head like the form of a space ship. These signs all alight with the space age toys...Category

- Taera Bretland - Blaeu British IslesBy Kristjana WilliamsLocated in New York, NYKristjana S Williams Taera Bretland - Blaeu British Isles, 2021 Giclée on Matt Smooth Fine Art Cotton 300 gsm paper Boldly signed and dated on the lower right front and pencil numbered on the lower left front by the artist 18 × 25 inches Unframed Hand signed and numbered 95/275 Story behind the artwork: A celebration of life on the British Isles, ‘Taera Bretland’ translates as ‘Clear Britain’, the islands of Great Britain here sitting in a crystal clear sea. This stunning map based artwork reveals fascinating details in every corner, but not necessarily where you might expect them… An aqua glow from the surrounding ocean lifts the land closer, whispering of its treasured secrets and cherished achievements. Here, the snaking Thames weaves its way not just through the capital, but across the whole country, connecting counties and unifying these Great British Isles, feeding colour popping flora and fauna along its path. Iconic and beloved landmarks rise like beacons, marking the steady flow of irrepressible revolution and impressive invention. In the spotlight, Murdoch’s ill-fated Titanic, Wren’s triumphant St Paul’s and Davy’s revolutionary lamp, rubbing noses with literary pioneers Dickens, Austen and Golding, and British icons Churchill and Chaplin. A bejewelled Ostrich, former resident at the Tower, stands haughtily atop the Truman Brewery; a regal stag, dapper in thimble hat and coiled suit of measuring tape, heads towards Saville Row’s Golden Mile; the subtropical splendour of Tresco Abbey has left its island home to perch in the Scottish Isles and The White Chapel Gallery, sits proudly, testament to Britain’s ‘New Generation’ post war art. A teasing glimpse of the continent affirms Great Britain's close ties with its European neighbours; an early Breeches Buoy rescue device symbolises unity in the face of threat and danger. About Kristjana S. Williams: Icelandic born artist Kristjana S Williams studied graphic design and illustration at Central St Martins, and quickly gained critical acclaim as Creative Director of 'Beyond the Valley', a position she held for eight years. In 2011 she began creating fine art pieces as well as illustrating books and designing interior items. Her designs are inspired by nature, and her technique involves digitally and physically layering nature upon nature to mirror the symmetry that exists in all living things. Each piece is its own magical universe of exotic botanicals and vibrant animals. Described by the New York Times as part of the ‘new antiquarian movement’, Kristjana’s three dimensional original work, Limited Edition prints and interior products feature Victorian engravings, which the artist has blended with verdant and exotic flora and fauna to stunning effect. Animals and insects are intertwined with lavish foliage, layered over ancient shipping maps...Category
