About the Item

Park Seo-Bo Écritures (Écriture N °. 1-23 and Écriture N °. 2-23 ) 2024 Relief in porcelain 47 x 36 x 5.5 cm 18.5 x 14.17 x 2.17 in Signed and accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity Edition of 99 In mint condition In 1967, Park Seo-Bo initiated the "Écriture" series, consisting of sculptures built from delicate and fine lines drawn repetitively. The primary idea was not to convey a message, but to focus on the act of emptying the self. In the artist’s creations, process and discipline are paramount — the repetitive gesture allows a deep connection with nature that translates to the physical traces left on the surface. By undergoing numerous transformations, the series has remained relevant and continuously evolved, adapting to new materials and artistic influences while staying true to its foundational principles. Over the decades, Park integrated Hanji (traditional Korean paper), long ridged lines representing ‘mountains’, forms and colours inspired by nature. In 2023, shortly before the artist’s death, "Écriture N °. 1-23" and "Écriture N ° . 2-23" were unveiled, becoming the last project created by Park. The two sculptures capture the colours of nature thanks to the enduring quality of porcelain. The harmonious repetition serves as a visual mantra, reflecting the artist's dedication to the serene beauty found in disciplined practice. Not only does this piece showcase technical skill, but it also offers a tranquil, mindful visual space for introspection and calm. These sculptures preserve the essence of Park’s work while introducing a new dimension to the "Écriture" series, seamlessly blending tradition with innovative artistic expression. “I want to reduce the idea and emotion in my work to express only that. I want to reduce and reduce — to create pure emptiness.„ —Park Seo-Bo
