About the Item
Cropped and deconstructed images of palm trees, an abandoned Hawaiian hotel facade, a polaroid camera, and an Aloha Airlines vintage trademark are represented on 14 x 11 inch Awagami Bamboo Japanese paper in Patty deGrandpre’s contemporary abstract monoprint titled “Hello & Goodbye (Flight to Hawaii)”. Paying homage to retro Hawaii, deGrandpre thoughtfully combines and layers of block printing ink and digital inkjet in hues of blue, yellow, green, sepia, pink and black to create this abstracted interpretation of a classic tropical Hawaiian landscape. Embracing both experimental printmaking and creative photography, deGrandpre interlaces the concept of fundamental form, patterns, playful shapes, and color with pictorial imagery resulting in dynamic vivid compositions that combine the recognizable with the abstract. DeGrandpre’s prints evolve from the vast catalog of photographs of common objects and scenes from her everyday life and experiences. The imagery serves not only as visual content for her artwork but also as a tool to document and recall moments in her life much like pages from a photo album. This one of a kind inkjet print will be a welcomed addition to any modern collection. Signed and dated under the right corner of the image, this striking artwork will ship flat in a protective sleeve ready for the frame of your choice.
DeGrandpre received her BFA in Visual Design from University of Massachusetts Dartmouth in 1987. She has exhibited throughout the United States including three solo exhibitions. deGrandpre’s work has been featured in various periodicals as well as being the recipient of various awards in both Fine Art and Printmaking. She is represented by Fountain Street Gallery, Boston Massachusetts.
