About the Item
Patty deGrandpre’s abstract contemporary monoprint titled “Coppertone” incorporates cropped and deconstructed images of a 10 speed bike, a sandy coastline, a chaise lounge beach chair, and a vintage iconic “Coppertone” suntan lotion trademark. Hues of blue, sepia, and orange, are thoughtfully placed on and within the black graphic pictorial elements in this modern landscape represented on 14 x 11 inch Awagami Bamboo Japanese paper. Embracing both experimental printmaking and creative photography, applications of block printing ink and digital inkjet are skillfully multi layered onto the media to create a dynamic interlacing of whimsical shapes, color blocked forms, negative space and pictures. deGrandpre’s prints evolve from the vast catalog of photographs of common objects and scenes from her everyday life and travels. The imagery serves as visual content for deGrandpre’s artwork as she creates unique compositions combining the recognizable with the abstract. Signed and dated under the right corner of the image, this striking summer depiction will ship flat in a protective sleeve and will be a welcomed addition to any contemporary collection.
DeGrandpre received her BFA in Visual Design from University of Massachusetts Dartmouth in 1987. She has exhibited throughout the United States including three solo exhibitions. deGrandpre’s work has been featured in various periodicals as well as being the recipient of various awards in both Fine Art and Printmaking. She is represented by Fountain Street Gallery, Boston Massachusetts.
