Scott Reeder Artists to Watch, 2015 Screenprint on Coventry Rag paper Signed and numbered in 40/100 in graphite pencil on the back of the sheet Frame included Pencil signed and numbered 40/100 on the back For Scott Reeder in 2015, the Artists to Watch are: PICASSO POLLOCK WARHOL SMITH JOHNSON WILLIAMS BROWN JONES MILLER DAVIS Framed in black wood frame under acrylic Measurements: Framed: 23 inches vertical by 19 by 1 Artwork: 19.5 inches vertical by 15.5 Provenance: from the White Columns Portfolio Scott Reeder Biography Scott Reeder (b. 1970, Battle Creek, MI) is a multidisciplinary artist who uses deadpan humor and cultural critique to expose the absurdity of life. His newest series draws from the traditions of still-life painting to project emotional affect and social relationships onto inanimate objects such as bread and butter, which he paints in brightly colored, cartoon-like settings. In his ongoing output of glazed, ceramic sculpture, Reeder presents an indexical array of ordinary and maligned objects, facsimiles from daily life that draw attention to consumer habits, desires and vices and are presented together without distinction. Reeder first became known for his text-based paintings and parodies of process painting, as well as for his feature-length improvised sci-fi film titled Moon Dust and his possibly ironic art fairs (the Milwaukee International & Dark Art Fair.) Reeder is based in Detroit, Michigan and Chicago, Illinois. Solo and two-person exhibitions include: Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago, IL; Kohler Arts Center, Sheboygan, WI; Canada, New York; Gavin Brown's Enterprise, New York, NY; 356 Mission, Los Angeles, CA; Marlborough, New York, NY; Lisa Cooley, New York, NY; Kavi Gupta, Chicago, IL and Berlin, Germany; Luce Gallery, Torino, Italy; Reyes Projects, Detroit, MI; Daniel Reich Gallery, New York, NY; Jack Hanley, San Francisco, CA; among others. His film Moon Dust has screened at Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago; Cincinnati Art Museum, Cincinnati; Cinemarfa Film Festival, Marfa; Anthology Film Archives, New York. A book on Reeder's work titled Ideas (cont.) was published by Mousse in 2019. -Courtesy Art for Change

He was initially associated in the late 1960s with the second generation of Chicago Imagists who called themselves The Hairy Who. He received his B.F.A. from the School of The Art Institute of Chicago in 1961 and his M.F.A. in 1970. Between degrees he lived for a time in New York where he easily came under the influence of Pop art, in part, because of his interests as a child in animation and cartoons. His fascination with the print media of popular culture led to a portrait-based art of cultural icons. Paschke used the celebrity figure, real or imagined, as a vehicle for explorations of personal and public identity with social and political implications.
