About the Item
Sunset Song Series stands as one of the most luminous new collections by Shizico Yi for her Solo exhibition, Modern Ancient;
the series was painted entirely en plein air under dimmed light in sunset hours stretch over 3 seasons; without artificial light to guide her, Shizico Yi embraced the evening light with unfiltered presence.
In this painting, she relying mostly on instinct and decades of intimate knowledge of her hand-mixed pigments, she rendered the shifting cloudscape and the interplay of sunset seen through the silhouette of lime trees, painted with her feeling, confidence and understanding of the craft.
This painting is a meditation on seeing without looking, on trust in one’s craft, and on the expressive power of painting.
The colour and tonal contrast between evening sunset against velvety dark green lime trees evokes a poetic stillness while the sunset light shines through the canopies. It is a quiet triumph of vision, presence, and artistic devotion.

About the Artist
Dr. Shizico Yi is a UK artist working on installations, films and paintings; the documentary nature of her work often concerns about the loss, repetition, the everyday subject and memories .
With design and film background, Shizico combines her interests making installation projects which relate to artist's personal life in relation to the society and human condition at large.
Shizico Yi holds a PhD in Fine Art awarded by UEL, UK 2017; she had completed a Master in Fine Art with a BA in Womenswear from UAL. London. She is also the Winner of Women Film Makers: Best Shorts Competition 2013 Los Angels. USA.
