The Luminograms are made from the most simple of procedures - directing light onto silver gelatin photo paper. However, it is that simplicity that allows Jackson to adapt his own way of thinking into the making of the finished piece. As he says, it's as close as he can get in photography to painting.
"I don't really see photography and pottery or painting or music to really be different to each other. Some are more immediate, some are more subtle. Music seems to be able to control emotions, photography seems to create a satisfying pleasure from just a tonal flat surface. Same with painting. One of the biggest mysteries for me is why all these things manage to control us in some way." - Michael G Jackson...

The Luminograms are made from the most simple of procedures - directing light onto silver gelatin photo paper. However, it is that simplicity that allows Jackson to adapt his own way of thinking into the making of the finished piece. As he says, it's as close as he can get in photography to painting.
After moving to Wales in 2007, Michael Jackson spent the next eight years creating an extensive study of a single local beach - Poppit Sands. After years of examining the beach, he realised that in effect he was studying himself and his reaction to the beach - rather than the physical landscape. He then started looking at the beach as simply a way of dividing up the camera frame - the lines and curves and focal points. It was during the long period of producing Poppit Sands prints in the darkroom that he discovered how to start making luminograms.
"I feel strongly that the luminograms represent a form of moulded light. You use your process to direct and mould the light and the paper receives it in its own magical way and translates that into a form that seems fantastical but also it has one foot in reality. The piece itself so often seems like a photograph of a sculpture, when it fact it is neither. I imagine that I am taking something that you cannot feel and I am making it appear in a seemingly three dimensional form that is balanced and controlled. Just like sculpting clay." Michael G Jackson...

The Sprinters, 1982
Limited Edition Offset Lithograph on Parson's Diploma paper
Signed in graphite on the front. Accompanied by letter of authenticity from the publisher
36 x 24 inches
Unframed
Accompanied by a letter of authenticity from the publisher on Olympic Committee letterhead. This is one of 750 hand signed lithographic posters, published in 1982 to celebrate the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics . Even though the signed edition is 750, the publisher is said to have sold fewer than 200 and destroyed the rest; hence signed editions of this print are far more scarce than the edition suggests. The Olympic Committee commissioned 15 nationally known artists, including to create unique designs to promote the event. This was John Baldessari's contribution to the portfolio - cleverly juxtaposing a modern day race, with ancient images, tying old and new and honoring the ancient Olympic tradition. In 2017, the Olympic Museum in Lausanne Switzerland...

With tropical animals, worldly sculptures, and vibrant textiles, Hunt Slonem’s early still lifes are filled with treasures that reflect his childhood spent traveling to faraway places. As the son of a Navy officer, Slonem moved every two or three years during his youth, living everywhere from Hawaii to Washington State to Nicaragua. “I would say my whole life could be summed up by the word exotica,” the artist has said. Slonem’s still lifes contain allusions of his various homes, including pineapples, Native American headdresses...

Originally from the North East of England, Gavin graduated in Fine art in 2000, and has been building his portfolio as an artist specialising in painting and screen printing - often combining the two, which helps communicate his chosen narrative. Gavin uses both vivid colours and expressive strokes to create engaging and lively pieces - his recent painting series ‘Landscapes of the Mind’ used the fluidity and movement of the paint to convey how an environment can effect ones state of thinking. Alongside his painting, Gavin is an established screen-printer exhibiting at many galleries across the U.K. and with new clients in New York his international profile is starting to expand. A regular at the Affordable Arts Fair, Gavin was one of 20 artists chosen to work alongside Film Four for an exhibition at Somerset House. His screen-prints often depict colourful, nostalgic images. Iconic designs which are humorous ornamentation and invite an opening for conversation. Gavin takes an original painting and creates many separate layers of half tones to screen-print by hand the final piece. Using this method he captures many textures and depths of colour within a piece of work. He recently designed and created a piece of work for the charity Help Refugee's 'Choose Love' campaign in conjunction with Printclub and the celebrated designer Katharine Hamnett, highlighting the current plight of refugees. Gavin's ongoing dedication has led to various interviews surrounding his work and being featured in The Times by the art critic...
