About the Item

Susan Collet's monoprints are inspired by the colours, textures and shapes found in nature. A gifted ceramicist, Collett originally took printmaking at Central Tech High School in Toronto and continues to work in this medium today. This beautiful, delicately detailed monoprint is reminiscent of Chinese landscape paintings. The tree image was initially carved into stitched copper and pressed onto archival paper. Paint is then applied to the copper plate. A second pressing added leaf detail and the soft, earthy palette of white, grey, ochre, moss green, and heather highlighted by steel blue. “Working with clay influences the printmaking, encouraging a sculptural approach. The plates composed of stitched and reconstructed industrial roofing copper give a second reading of strength and organic tracings embossed into the paper, reaffirming perceptions of fragility and transience.” Susan Collett She graduated with a BFA in printmaking and ceramics from the Cleveland Institute of Art and won the institute's prestigious Agnes Gund Memorial Award. Collett is a member of the International Academy of Ceramics and the Royal Canadian Academy of the Arts. She is a recipient of the Winifred Shantz Award from the Canadian Clay and Glass Gallery. Susan Collett's work can be found in numerous private and corporate collections. Framed dimensions 46.25 x 51.75 inches

Untitled (Work on Paper) - vibrant, modernist abstract, mixed media on paper
By Otto Rogers

The vibrant colours—burnt orange, turquoise, black-a touch of green and the dynamic form of this inspired composition is quintessentially Otto Rogers. The modernist artist was masterful in his use of acrylic paints and his work reflected the natural beauty that surrounded his country studio. Saskatchewan born Rogers (1935-2019) was recognized by the NY art critic, Clement Greenberg as a ‘big attack’ painter early in his career and stated that his artwork showed a ‘fullness of inspiration.’ A devout follower of the Baha’i faith, Rogers did not view art as simply a ‘decorative thing.’ “Nature is God...
