About the Item
This vibrant one-of-a-kind abstract monotype by noted Colorado artist Wilma Fiori (1929–2019) features a bold, expressive composition in rich jewel tones of green, orange, teal, and purple layered against a dramatic black background. The monotype, hand-pulled and numbered 1/1, is printed on fine-quality paper and is signed by the artist in both the lower right and upper left corners—underscoring its uniqueness and collectibility.
Professionally presented in a custom white frame using archival materials for long-term preservation, this original print is ideal for collectors of modern art, abstract works, and mid- to late-20th-century American printmaking.
Provenance: Estate of the artist, Wilma Fiori
About the Artist:
Wilma Fiori (née Denny) was born in 1929 in Youngstown, Ohio, and raised in Great Bend, Kansas. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Loretto Heights College in Denver in 1952 and later earned a Master’s degree in Anthropology from the University of Denver. Her time working in the Native Arts Department at the Denver Art Museum deeply influenced her artistic direction, drawing on the visual language of Southwestern Native American pottery and textiles.
Fiori studied under prominent painter Dale Chisman and worked with notable Denver artists such as Bill Joseph, Jeffery Keith, and Quang Ho through the Art Students League of Denver. Her work has been widely exhibited for over 30 years across Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, and New York.
This compelling monotype showcases Wilma Fiori’s signature approach to color, balance, and abstraction—making it a sophisticated addition to any modern or contemporary art collection.

Although Fiori was born in Ohio, she grew up in Great Bend, Kansas before moving to Colorado to attend Loretto Heights College, where she received her BFA. However, after she graduated in 1952, she discovered her passion for anthropology, and in 1979, she received a Master of Arts in Anthropology from the University of Denver. Fiori was fortunate to work as a curatorial assistant to Richard Conn in the Native Arts Department of the Denver Art Museum. The Denver Art Museum was the first Fine Art Museum in the United States to show Native American Art. The pottery and textiles from the Southwestern tribes inspired Fiori’s fascination with geometric designs and like many of her contemporary artists, it contributed to her shift towards abstract painting. In 1987, Fiori met Dale Chisman, a prominent Colorado artist, and studied under him at the Art Students League of Denver until 2007. She also met and studied alongside other talented Colorado artists including Bill Joseph, Jeffery Keith, Quang Ho, and Mark Lunning. Fiori exhibited her artwork for over 30 years in Colorado, Indiana, Illinois, and New York.
