About the Item
Original Vintage Poster in bright and crisp colors by the Dutch graphic design legend Wim Crouwel, advertising rather the museum's collection of works by modern masters as Picasso, Braque, Léger and the other usual suspects than a special exhibition.
Crouwel was co-founder of the first multidisciplinary design agency in the Netherlands, Total Design in 1963, and the sole designer of the Stedelijk Museum’s visual communications from 1963 to 1985. Between 1956 and 1964 he designed catalogs, invitations, and posters for the Van Abbemuseum in Eindhoven.
His work was profoundly influenced by the Swiss school of graphic design, whose rational, minimalist approach was organized around a grid system (that's why Crouwel was called "Mr. Gridnik"). His credo was: The museum comes first, not the artist. No subjective designs based on the views of the artist whose work is on show. A clear, relevant, consistent system of well-organized and ordered information. No decorations, no popular interpretations.
This is an exceedingly rare poster in near perfect condition; I haven't found another exemplar that was ever available on the market.
