About the Item
"Permafrost" by Alexis Kandra is a limited edition signed, titled, dated and numbered giclée print on Moab paper based on an original oil painting with metallic gold foil (edition total of 5). The image features a surreal wildlife scene of a fantastical grouping of animals -- in the foreground of the landscape is a (now extinct) saber tooth tiger specifically a "homotherium", a baby polar bear, a domesticated husky dog (denoted by the dog collar), a bird called the "rock ptarmigan" and in the background is a steppe mammoth (also now extinct), but all coexisting in this beautiful scene. In the foreground of the landscape surrounding the animals is greenery, a body of water, and the foothills leading up to a snowy mountain range against beautiful pink clouds and bright blue sky. The palette of this piece includes black, metallic gold and pewter, blues, pinks, greens, browns and yellow golds, browns, purples and whites. Alexis paints figurative wildlife oil paintings, both small and large scale, with both traditional and imaginary groupings of animals of certain ecological areas and landscapes. Sometimes we are lucky enough to have Alexis make available prints of her outstanding paintings and this is one of them. Custom framing is available upon request.
