About the Item

Hand-colored etching by Ch. Giroux after painting by Daniel Hernandez Morillo (1856-1932). Best known for his paintings of young women, charmingly posed or engaged in scenes of daily activity, Peruvian born Hernandez left for Europe as a young man to study art. He lived in Italy and Paris for over four decades before returning by invitation of the Peruvian government to establish the National School of Beaux Arts in Lima, where he held the position of director until his death.
