Original WWII poster: VICTORY - NOW YOU CAN INVEST IN IT! VICTORY LOAN. Linen-backed in very good condition. Restored 'original' fold marks during linen backing which are not considered a defect on World War II posters.
America the proud with Her eagle at the forefront of this poster. Original Victory Loan poster with a bald eagle in flight. The poster has been archivally mounted on linen, so the fold lines have come out. It is in excellent condition. The poster features a bald eagle perched on a stack of war bonds with his wings spread. The background is three stripes; one blue, one white, and one red. There are stars floating throughout the background and spotlights turned towards the eagle.
In 1942 the Office of War Information (OWI) was created to both craft and disseminate the government’s message. This propaganda campaign included specific goals and strategies. Artists, filmmakers, and intellectuals were recruited to take the government’s agenda (objectives) and turn it into a propaganda campaign. This included posters found across American-from railway stations to post offices, from schools to apartment buildings.
By the '30s and '40s, Dean Cornwell was a household name. His patriotic war posters and full-page color advertisements were everywhere: Seagrams Whiskey, General Motors, and Coca Cola - to name a few. Bird & Rubenstein 26, Nelson 118. Dean Cornwell
Dean Cornwell was an American illustrator and muralist born on March 5, 1892, in Louisville. Dean Cornwell was Normam Rockwell's favorite Illustrator. At the peak of his popularity he was nicknamed the ‘Dean of Illustrators’. He was a student of Harvey Dunn and he in turn taught artists and developed talents for a generation. Cornwell's paintings were in Cosmopolitan, Redbook, True, The American Weekly, Life and Good Housekeeping. He has done book arts for The Man of Galilee and others. Cornwell has also taken up advertisement contracts for GM, Eastern, Pennsylvania Railroad, Paul Jones Whiskey, Aunt Jemima, Seagram's Gin, Woodbury Soap, Palmolive, Coke, Goodyear, New York Life and Squibb. Cornwell was an icon of the ‘Golden Age of Illustration’. Cornwell died on December 4, 1960, in New York.
