About the Item

Red Grooms Rover, 1996 Color lithograph on wove paper Color lithograph on wove paper Boldly signed and numbered 42/75 in red marker on the front this work is held in its original frame with the original PACE Prints label on the back. Provenance: Acquired from the private collection of Douglas S. Cramer, Los Angeles Published by PACE Prints, New York with label verso Measurements: Framed: 7.5 inches (vertical) by 5.5 inches (horizontal) by .75 Lithograph 2.6 inches vertical by 2.6 inches horizontal This charming piece, rarely found on the marketplace, was acquired from the collection of Douglas Cramer, (August 22, 1931 – June 4, 2021) a top American television producer who worked for Paramount Television and Spelling Television, producing series such as Mission: Impossible, The Brady Bunch, and Dynasty - who amassed one of the most distinguished collections of contemporary art in the United States. RED GROOMS Biography Born Charles Rogers Grooms in Nashville, Tennessee, the red-headed artist Red Grooms attended the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, the New School for Social Research, and the Hans Hofmann School on Cape Cod. During the 1950s and 1960s Grooms participated in happenings with fellow New York artists Allan Kaprow, Claes Oldenburg, and Jim Dine. Their nonverbal, theatrical presentations often required constructed sets; Grooms' interest in both performance and setting has continued in his art. The visual energy of Grooms' paintings and sculpture engages audiences immediately. Grooms is best known for extending pop art into life-size environmental constructions. A Texas rodeo, a slice of downtown Chicago, and a New York subway car are among his large-scale "sculpto-pictoramas" peopled with cartoonlike characters. Most famous is Ruckus Manhattan, created in 1975 by Grooms and his assistants--technicians and artists--called the Ruckus Construction Company. It includes a thirty-foot-tall model of the World Trade Center glowing with lights, a fifteen-foot Statue of Liberty, and a swaying Brooklyn Bridge. In addition to environments, Grooms has also produced films and made prints, bronze sculpture, and three-dimensional paper "portraits." Movie stars, city life, and famous artists have been his major subjects.

Bird's Eye View
By Ronnie Cutrone
Located in Missouri, MO
Ronnie Cutrone (1948-2013) "Bird's Eye View" c. 1980s Color Lithograph Ed. 222/250 Signed, Numbered and Titled Image Size: 17 x 23.5 inches Framed Size: approx. 24 x 30 inches. Ronnie Cutrone, a figurehead of the Pop and Post-Pop art scenes, was Andy Warhol's assistant at the Factory atop the Decker Building from 1972-1980, and worked closely with Roy Lichtenstein, combining stylistic elements of both. Cutrone's large-scale paintings of American cartoon icons, like Mickey Mouse, Felix the Cat, and Woody Woodpecker further reinvented kitsch and popular media in terms of fine art. Executed in fluorescent monochromatic colors with the finesse of mass-produced silkscreen and prints, Cutrone's works are the reverse of tromp-l'oeil; they use fine art media (watercolor, pastel, crayon - on high-quality paper) to celebrate, rather than hide, the artifice of their subjects. "Everything is cartoon for me", Cutrone is noted for saying, even "ancient manuscripts...
