French Vintage Exhibition Poster for Yves Brayer for Galerie Alain Moyon-Avenard

1975

About the Item

French Vintage Exhibition Poster for Yves Brayer (1975). Newly framed, the poster announces an exhibition of the works of Yves Brayer at the Galerie Alain Moyon-Avenard in Nantes, France. Discovered in the South of France, this gallery holds several Yves Brayer posters acquired from an individual with an impressive collection of these alluring and desirable works. They are charming and would suit being hung in your home or workspace. They are in good overall condition and beautifully framed. This particular poster was printed by the Mourlot Brothers of Paris. In October 1945, encouraged by Henri Matisse and Georges Braque, Pablo Picasso met with Fernand Mourlot. A few days after the meeting, the artist decided to dedicate himself to the lithographic medium. For four months, Picasso started with Mourlot at 8:30 in the morning and finished well after 8:00 in the evening, as he thoroughly explored the lithographic process. This experience ushered in a collaboration with the Mourlot studio that would last almost three decades and produce over 400 different graphic images and editions. The Mourlot stamp on this poster is a special feature adding to its allure and value. Upon request a video will be provided. If more than one poster is desired, please contact the gallery on this platform. About the Artist: Yves Brayer (1907-1990) was born in Versailles, France. Determined to be an artist from an early age, he set out for Paris in 1924, initially studying at the academies in Montparnasse, and from there he attended the École des Beaux-Arts. Whilst still a student he exhibited at the Salon d’Automne and the Salon des Indépendants, and in 1927 Brayer left Paris for Spain with the aid of a state grant to enable him to study the works of the Spanish Masters in the Prado. On his return to Paris in 1934 he exhibited a collection of paintings inspired by his travels in Europe and Morocco to great acclaim. Having moved south to Cordes in the Tarn region of France after the War, Brayer then discovered the area which was to have the greatest artistic influence on his work: Provence. He was enchanted by the diverse and architectural forms of the Alpilles mountains, and by the vast expanse of the Camargue region with its ubiquitous white horses and black bulls. From then on he spent several months each year working in Provence. He also made several trips to Mexico, Egypt, Iran, Greece, Russia, USA and Japan where he was quick to grasp the unique rhythm and light of each country. A large collection of Yves Brayer’s paintings are on permanent display both at the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Cordes, in the Salle Yves Brayer and at the Musée Yves Brayer in Les Baux de Provence, as well as various museums in France and elsewhere. Yves Brayer died in 1990. Dimensions with frame: H 80 cm / 31.5" W 58 cm / 22.8" Dimensions without frame: H 73 cm / 28.7" W 51 cm / 20.1"

  • Carali McCall, Work no. 1 (Circle Drawing) 1hour 09min, Lithograph Print, 2017
    By Carali McCall
    Located in London, GB
'Work no. 1 (Circle Drawing), 1hour 09minutes, 2018’ Limited Edition of 25, Lithograph Print, by Carali McCall (born 1981). Signed and numbered by the artist. McCall began her ‘Circle Drawing' artworks in 2004 where she focuses on the durational element and physical process of drawing. Using graphite on paper she draws her full arm's length in a continuous circular motion to the point of complete exhaustion. During this physically demanding process, her position and ability to extend the arm diminishes to the extent she can no longer hold the graphite. McCall quotes, 'an important aim is to maintain a constant and continuous visible line that embodies time and energy. While performing, painfully, my entire body is noticeably putting effort into the drawing.' This intense action and durational element often cause the paper to fatigue and rip, which is often identified as her distinctive trademark. About Artist: Carali McCall is an emerging artist whose works are internationally recognised. A Canadian artist born in 1981, she is based in London, UK. McCall was awarded a PhD from Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts, London, and her work is featured in the upcoming publication by Bloomsburg Publishing, 'Performance Drawing: New Practices since the 1960s'. A finalist in the 2017 Jerwood Drawing Prize, McCall’s work is currently touring the United Kingdom and is situated in private and public collections curated alongside artworks by Picasso and Damien Hirst. Other notable exhibitions include: Again and Again and Again: Serial Formats and Repetitive Actions, Vancouver Art Gallery, Canada, (2012), Kenny Schachter’s Rove Gallery, Hoxton Square, London (2008), Folkestone Fringe Festival (2014), Woolff Gallery, London UK (2017) and EMPIRE II...
