APEL.LES FENOSA (1899-1988) is linked to those of the great poets of the 20th century: Max Jacob, who presented his first exhibition at Galerie Percier in 1921; Jean Cocteau; Jules Supervielle; Louis Aragon; Francis Ponge; and Henri Michaux. His work has a fundamentally lyrical component and has been discussed in terms of primal expression, embodying a magical palpitation of matter and poetry. In his sketches, Fenosa combined imprecise fine lines with the bold and decided strokes of a sculptor’s drawing. In 1920 he settled in France fleeing from the war in Morocco.
