Bill Tansey
Bill Tansey was at an art show in 2010 and became mesmerized by a Nicholas De Steal painting. Two years later he closed his business built a house on Cape Cod and spent the next two years studying, painting, and taking photographs. He now resides in Bridgehampton, New York with his partner and has a painting studio in Southampton, NY. He has been featured in publications like Architectural Digest, W, Vogue, Luxe Interior + Design, Town and Country, Purist, Forbes, and Long Island Pulse. His artwork has also been featured at Guild Hall in East Hampton, NY, the Park Avenue Armory, The Provincetown Art Association and Museum. In 2015, he received the Catherine and Theo Hios Best Landscape Award at Guild Hall by curator Marla Prather of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. For the oil painting “Dive” 2023 “Tansey says “it was inspired by mid-century advertisements between 1938 and 1950. Simple shapes and graphic illustrations were used to promote a new modern way of living.” Known today for his oil paintings, Tansey will show selected works for this solo exhibition in Hudson. These include abstract, uniquely textured still lifes, flowers, landscapes, and figures. He draws inspiration from the impasto canvas paintings of Nicolas de Staël, expressionistic paintings of Joan Mitchell, and the figurative paintings of Alex Katz. His own technique involves broad brush and palette knife with a sophisticated sense of color. Tansey has studied at the International Center of Photography, The School of Visual Arts, The Arts Students League of New York, The New York Film Academy and the Provincetown Art Association. This is his second solo show at the Robin Rice Gallery, now in her new location at 234 Warren street in Hudson NY.

"Untitled"
By Tom Baldwin
Located in Surfside, FL
Recently graduated from Pasadena’s legendary Art Center College of Design, Tom Baldwin created the series of inkjet prints Japanese Gardens in 1996 on his computer, using then-nascent graphics technology to "paint" his images on the computer screen. Baldwin embraced this technology and its accompanying printing process not just for the speed and ease of their use, but because the artist could achieve the absolute flatness that the principles of modernism preached but ultimately--because of the limitations of their tools--never reached. These colorful, semi-abstracted views of Japanese temple landscapes subtly, but radically redefine picture space. Baldwin shifts fore and backgrounds, giving equal weight to skies and hillsides. Endowing a lowly bush with a vibrant purple or orange might cause it to pop out of proportion, but ultimately lends balance and stability to the work itself, in short, returning the composition to its original, harmonious whole in keeping with the subject matter. these original prints employ a color scheme that seems more reminiscent of 1980s Japanese pop art beer advertisements...
