About the Item
“Man is Only a Memory” is a captivating silkscreen by Ernest Trova, published in 1969 by Multiples, Inc. This artwork, part of a small edition of fewer than 300 pieces, was created for an exhibition featuring twelve major Pop artists in 1968. Although not numbered, it holds significant value and rarity due to its limited release. The piece is notable for its intricate details and evocative themes, reflecting Trova's unique approach to Pop Art. Printed by the esteemed Edition Domberger in Germany and published by Multiples, Inc. in New York, the verso is inscribed with "," attesting to its authenticity and origin. The silkscreen's vivid imagery and historical context make it a treasured addition to any art collection, embodying the spirit of the Pop Art movement and Trova's exploration of human existence and memory.

Ernest Trova
In the early 1960s, St. Louis Sculptor Ernest Trova—who was entirely self-taught—began developing his pivotal theme of Falling Man, a stark and startling image that combines references to classical sculpture with an industrial aesthetic. In his Profile Canto series, Falling Man—depicted as an androgynous, mechanical figure—is folded and segmented as to be nearly undetectable amid the various geometric forms that comprise these works.
