After Pablo Picasso Le Peintre Et Son Modele, 1964 Original Lithograph on Arches paper unsigned 25.4 x 19.1 cm - sheet 35.6 x 29 cm - framed Edition of 2000 Limited edition lithograph by Pablo Picasso titled Le Peintre et son Modele from the book titled "Prints from the Mourlot Press" published in Paris, 1964. The book was for their landmark traveling exhibition, which was sponsored by the French Embassy and The Smithsonian. Pablo Picasso’s collaboration with the Mourlot Studio (Atelier Mourlot) in Paris is one of the most important partnerships in modern printmaking. Beginning in 1945, Picasso started working with Fernand Mourlot, the master printer who had already collaborated with artists like Matisse, Chagall, and Braque. Although Picasso had made prints earlier in his career, Mourlot encouraged him to explore lithography in far greater depth. What made the collaboration remarkable was Picasso’s intense curiosity and willingness to experiment. Instead of treating lithography as a secondary medium, he pushed it to its limits—drawing directly on stones, reworking images repeatedly, layering colors in unconventional ways, and even turning mistakes into creative opportunities. Mourlot’s technical expertise matched Picasso’s restless inventiveness, and together they produced more than 400 lithographs over about two decades.
