Angelica Bergamini
Mixed Media Collage with Eye: 'She Sang the Universe into Existence #6'

2018

About the Item

She sang the universe into existence series comprises 13 prints on matte Japanese paper. It is a combination of collage and archival pigment print. The artist continues to “contemplate on the origins of being which connect us across borders, cultures, ethnicities, and religions.” Whereas Abrahamic religions purport that there was the Word that started us all, Angelica’s Universe started with a song full of tenderness and love of The Divine Feminine. The recurring circular shape is symbolic of the divine. The eyes come from the photographs of young girls that the artist has been taking since 2014 during her travels and with no particular project in mind. But everything has its time. “The idea is to bring the ancient with the element of innocence. This energy of the cosmic presence surrounds and observes us. We are not just on alive planet. We are in alive Cosmos. Everything moves, everything is in constant flow. Again it gives me a sense of something bigger and I try to reconnect myself to the flow of existence as it is happening.” ‘Our present existence is just a cosmic blink. I am trying to hear the beat of the cosmos within myself, the primordial force, to sense the interconnectedness with nature, with all the powers and energies of the universe. To go beyond a sense of separation and to be able to cherish the universality that is implied by our interdependence. Inspired by the times in which the Great Mother was the Great Cosmic Soul (“At the very dawn of religion, God was a woman. Do you remember?- Merlin Stone), I contemplate on the origins of being which connect us across borders, cultures, ethnicities, and religions. Meditating on the original place of origin, reaching for our roots within the cosmos allows me to rediscover and worship our oneness while reconnecting myself to a sense of the infinite. Because beyond the roots of earthly life, we are all immersed in a living universe, in a cosmic placenta. -Angelica Bergamini Angelica Bergamini was born in Viareggio (Italy) in 1973. She studied in Spain at the Facultad de Bellas Artes of Granada and the Museo National Centro de Arte Reina Sofia in Madrid and holds a degree in Painting from the Accademia di Belle Arti of Florence (Italy). Bergamini’s research explores the symbolism of colors in an open dialogue with human emotions and natural shapes, while her experimental approach manifests through different mediums: from painting and paper-cuts assemblages to video and sculptural installations. Her works have been exhibited in New York (Tanja Grunert; White Box; BRIC Arts Media; Photo New York), London (Chelsea space), Paris (Galerie Arnaud Lefebvre), Stockholm (Färgfabriken), Hong Kong (Kwai Fung Hin Art Gallery), Milan (Pari&Dispari). Her work is in private collections in USA, Europe, China, and Israel. She is currently working on a video animation series based on a selection of her mixed media on paper. In the last year, her videos have been shown in Cuba, France, Italy, and Cyprus.

  • Long exposure figurative Photography: 'Illuminations No. 6'
    By Florence Montmare
    Located in New York, NY
'Illuminations started in 2002 when a relationship was slowly falling apart. While trying to save it, we rented a large stylish apartment in Stockholm, and then later one in Arles, France, hoping that a change of scene would have a positive effect. The new spaces made the distance between us more acute, and the inevitable break even more obvious. The ritual of making one photograph each night became crucial to me. I left the camera shutter open for 3 to 8 hours in a darkened bedroom, and as the morning light arrived I interrupted the exposure. It is a private journal, documenting time and memory, where present meets past.' Born in Vienna to Swedish and Greek parents and raised in Stockholm, Florence Montmare has an MBA in Design Management from Linnaeus University, Sweden and studied at the School of Visual Arts. A graduate of International Center of Photography, New York, she collaborated with artist Sam Samore...
