About the Item

Bridge End Farm is a limited edition print by Anya Simmons, inspired by her travels across the United Kingdom. This Giclée limited edition print is created using archive quality fine art paper and pigment inks. It comes beautifully mounted with a white border. The approximate size stated in the individual print description includes the mount. Size: H:50 cm x W:50 cm. Artist Bio: "I was born in 1969 in Uganda and moved to Nairobi, Kenya in 1972. Living in Africa for the first fourteen years of my life and then moving to the UK has had a profound impact on the diversity of my work and where many of my creative ideas have emerged. My works are profoundly influenced by beautiful landscapes across Britain (i.e. Scottish Highlands, Cornwall, Kent and the Midlands). I mainly work with gesso, acrylic and acrylic inks. However, my interest in more traditional techniques such as watercolour and oils are still very important to me. Often, I will imagine a scene and decide how I want certain colours to flow together to create a particular atmosphere. I get enormous pleasure from examining the form, colours, light and textures within our diverse landscape and am continually striving to capture this. I will often take pictures of rolling fields, flowers, cliffs, mountains, headlands, buildings (i.e. cottages, beach huts, castles etc), seascapes and the ever changing sky and take inspiration from the magical beauty of the natural world around us."

A New Beginning

Elizabeth Higgins Biography b. 1960 Elizabeth Higgins describes herself as an abstract figurative and landscape painter. Everything around her serves as a potential subject, an inspiration to begin a painting. Fidelity to the landscape, the figure, or the still life is relative, as she isn’t interested in literal depictions; instead, it’s the abstract relationships of these shapes and colors, the abstract pictorial design that drives her work. Higgins’ paintings are rooted in the tradition stemming from Courbet, Derain, Bonnard, Matisse, Morandi, German Expressionism, and the Canadian Group of Seven (also known as the Algonquin School of landscape painters, 1920–1933). She is influenced by the work of her artist-teachers Paul Resika—himself a student of Hans Hofmann—and Robert De Niro, Sr. (1922-1993), as well as the paintings of contemporary artist Peter Doig. Her artistic evolution stretches across this continuum. It is the “in-between”, the hovering between representation and abstraction, that interests her, not the labeling effect of details; instead, she aims directly at the spirit of the painting—of making something come to life. John Goodrich wrote in her catalog essay, “Elizabeth Higgins’ direct brushwork and simplified forms suggest an energy, but crucially, reveal a painter who knows the power of color…” Elizabeth Higgins was born in Toronto, Canada, in 1960. As a Helena Rubenstein...
