By Barry Flanagan
Barry Flanagan (1941–2009) was a Welsh sculptor renowned for his dynamic and whimsical bronze sculptures of hares, which became his signature works. Born in Prestatyn, North Wales, Flanagan studied architecture at Birmingham College of Art before focusing on sculpture at St Martin’s School of Art in London. He later taught at both St Martin’s and the Central School of Art and Design between 1967 and 1971 .
