About the Item

Basya Wuensch Sefirot, Gevura (strength, restraint) Childbirth, Delivery 2023 Hand printed color linocut on cold pressed watercolor paper Hand signed and numbered 12 X 9 inches Basya Wuensch Reiter is an accomplished contemporary female Chassidic artist who was born and raised in the vibrant city of Miami Beach in 1996. Basya displayed a profound passion for art, and her natural talent flourished through dedicated training and mentorship. Growing up surrounded by an eclectic array of art, ranging from American Pop Art sculpture, to French Abstract Expressionist painting, Israeli Hebrew calligraphy to Russian vintage photography, her passion was ignited from an early age. Basya's artistic journey began with personalized art instruction from renowned artist Deborah Debache. Under her guidance, Basya developed a strong foundation in various artistic techniques including woodblock printing, sculpture, lithograph technique watercolor and oil painting etc. and honed her skills to perfection. Seeking to further expand her artistic horizons, Basya embarked on an immersive art intensive academy known as Tzohar, located in the artistic hub of Pittsburgh (home of the Andy Warhol museum) and continuing her studies in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, Israel. This experience served as a catalyst for her artistic growth, enabling her to explore new mediums and push the boundaries of her creativity. Through her artwork, Basya embraces the human body in all its forms, delving into themes that resonate deeply with her personal experiences. Motherhood, disability, and body acceptance form the cornerstone of her artistic expression. Drawing inspiration from her own journey as a mother and her interactions with individuals with disabilities, Basya seeks to challenge societal norms and redefine traditional notions of beauty and self-acceptance. Basya's background in Hasidic Jewish philosophy shines through her artwork, infusing it with depth and meaning. By skillfully translating esoteric concepts into tangible visual representations, she bridges the gap between Art and Judaica, the spiritual and the tangible, inviting viewers into a world of profound introspection and reflection. Continuing in the tradition of Jewish feminist artists such as Judy Chicago, Miriam Schapiro, Deborah Kass and Nancy Spero this is a Neo Hasidic contemporary artwork for the post millennial era. In her most recent series of works, Basya has embarked on a captivating exploration of the seven Sefirot through the lens of motherhood. Utilizing the relief print technique of linocut, (similar to a woodblock or woodcut technique) she brings these ancient mystical principles to life, beautifully intertwining the divine aspects of creation with the powerful and transformative experience of motherhood. Her masterful use of line, texture, and color creates visually striking compositions that evoke a sense of awe and contemplation.
