About

1980, Blues Brothers - Robert Longo, Untitled, from Men in Cities, 2018, Archival Pigment Print, 46.5 x 72 Edition of 6 Film still from the movie Blues Brothers with a graphite and charcoal drawing from Robert Longo's Men in the Cities depicting a dynamically posed man in a suit. Artistica! Is a new body of conceptual art work by Bonnie Lautenberg exploring how one art form might have been influenced by another. In this body of work, the creator has chosen to use the history of film vs. the history of paintings. In creating this transformative art, Ms. Lautenberg has chosen a film still and a painting from the same year. As of now, the project starts from 1928 and goes until 2015. There are 45 pieces completed and according to the creator, this is an homage to the brilliant film makers and the extraordinarily talented artists chosen to be represented in this body of work. In doing her research for this project, Ms. Lautenberg read about the Italian artist, Lucio Fontana, who in 1965 went to see the Italian film director Michelangelo Antonioni’s film Red Desert. He was so moved by his experience watching this film, he went right to his studio and painted a new painting, “Concetto Spaziale, Attese” which was bright red with 24 slits in that painting, the most of any painting he ever made. This project, Artistica!, had already been under way when this story was discovered, but it definitely answered the question Ms. Lautenberg raised. From there she learned about so many other artists who were influenced by other artists and films. This work has been lauded and very well received by gallery owners and collectors alike. The response has been “This is such a beautiful body of work”, “So personal”, “It is so different, why wasn’t this done before?”
