Carlo D'Aloisio da Vasto (Vasto, 1892 - Rome, 1971) Italian painter and artist. At the age of only sixteen he made his debut, after a self-taught training, in art, successfully exhibiting his first pictorial works in Castellammare Adriatico. In 1914, he left his home in Vasto to come to Rome. He soon became passionate about woodcut and began his illustrator activity collaborating with several period magazines and art books. In 1935, he became director of Palazzo delle Esposizioni and the Gallery of Modern Art, for which he purchased works by Socrates, Trombadori, Donghi, Scipione, Mafai, Melli and other Italian artists. In 1950, he proposed and obtained from the Municipality of Rome the transfer of the Museum of Rome and the Gallery of Modern Art to the current location in Palazzo Braschi. His works are now preserved in the major art galleries of Italy, Europe and America.
