A fine impression, on cream laid paper, the full sheet with margins (1/2 to 1 1/2 inches), in excellent condition. Matted to museum standards, unframed. Image size 7 7/8 x 9 3/4 inches; sheet size 8 7/8 x 12 1/2 inches. ABOUT THE ARTIST Painter and printmaker Christian Dull (1902-1982) was the son of acclaimed Philadelphia artist and architect, John Dull. He studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts under Daniel Garber and Earl Horter. He also attended the National Academy of Design in New York and the Philadelphia Museum School of Industrial Art. Dull summered in Cape Ann, MA, where he developed a great love for the sea. It was during these trips that Dull received inspiration for his harbor and fishing scenes. Through his exploration of intaglio printmaking, he achieved a painterly effect imbued with a sense of modernist design and abstraction. Dull was an active member of many arts organizations, including The American Society of Etchers, The Philadelphia Print Club, The North Shore Art Alliance, and the American Federation of Arts. The popular appeal of his work is evident from the many awards he received, including a prize from the Graphic Sketch Club of Philadelphia and inclusion in the exhibition "Fifty Prints of the Year" at the American Institute of Graphic Arts, New York, in 1931. He was also awarded a prize from the American Society of Etchers. The artist's work is represented in the collections of the New York Public Library, Cape May Court House, and many public institutions. He has exhibited at the Corcoran Gallery in Washington D.C. and the Brooklyn Museum in New York.
