Chuck Close
Self Portrait by Chuck Close

2007

About the Item

Self Portrait, 2007 9 color screen print on Somerset Satin paper 38 x 30 inches Edition of 118 Printed at Watanabe Press Publisher: Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts Chuck Close was best known for the monumental heads he paints in thousands of tiny airbrush bursts, thumbprints, or looping multi-color brushstrokes. Over the past forty years, Close has developed a formal analysis and methodological reconfiguration of the human face that has radically changed the definition of modern portraiture. His sitters were chosen from among his family and friends - including artists such as Richard Serra, Cindy Sherman, Alex Katz, Roy Lichtenstein, and Robert Rauschenberg – and are posed in a manner that allows only the subtlest of individual inflections.
