2007

About the Item

Signed and Numbered Limited Edition Silkscreen Print on 300gsm weight Claro Silk Paper Framed: 110 x 110 cm 43 1/4 x 43 1/4 in. Edition of 50 (#22/50) ----------- Deborah Azzopardi has become world-renowned for her distinctive pop art images which she has been producing for the past 35 years. While her colours serve as the initial bait to gain the viewer’s attention, it is her subject matter that hooks you and keeps you captivated. In “Saturday Night” 2004, lipstick is seductively applied, while elsewhere toned bodies remove items of clothing and long female legs dangle from a red convertible. These works are provocatively flirtatious, highlighted by playful titles such as “Beach Party” and “Happy Birthday”. Millions of people across the world are familiar with her artworks, her works have been published internationally and there is an incredible demand for her Original Paintings. Azzopardi’s mission is to be free to play with the drama and joy of everyday life. She breaks her subjects down into vibrant segments and into moments we have all experienced and she captures them forever in paint. The respect she has gained in publishing reflects the honesty and innocence of her intentions. Her paintings and Limited Editions celebrate the comedy of turbulent relationships, seductions and the fantasies and worries we all have. The viewer is allowed to ponder, without preconceptions, the moments her paintings represent. To possess a piece of Deborah Azzapardi’s work is to embrace the qualities that make us human and to be captivated by her palette of colours.

  • Planet Earth Water
    By Dina Goldstein

My latest project, Modern Girl, extrapolates upon past themes of commercialism and identity within Western culture by creating reimagined ad campaigns based upon the famous “pin-up girl” advertising posters of 1930s Shanghai, China. This era heralded the emergence of Asian women as individuals, as they began to break away from Confucius tradition that demanded total filial piety alongside crippling beauty practices like foot binding. However, while an expression of gender emancipation, the posters sowed the seeds of a new form of exploitation: the use of the female form to sell consumer products. I grew up in Vancouver — regarded as the gateway to the East. It has experienced unprecedented immigration from Hong Kong and China in the past 35 years, turning this once provincial community into a vibrant Asian metropolis. The impact of Asian culture has been profound, not only on the city but on me as an individual and artist. I have come to love Asian film and literature such as Maxine Hong Kingston’s The Woman Warrior and Gish Jen’s Mona in the Promised Land. Such works explore the immigrant experience, something that resonates with my own experiences emigrating from Israel in childhood. Learning to fit in was stressful, however, I realized that the challenges facing my young Asian friends in Vancouver were even greater. They were torn between familial demands of obedience and academic achievement — in opposition to the Western ideals of self-expression and individualism. The ‘Modern Girl’ image first appeared in the West and was notable for its bold sexuality, with scantily clad women selling everything from clothing, soap and cigarettes to army recruitment. • SATOMI.N - SCHOOL GIRLS - BATTLE ROYALE
    By Hiro Ando
    Located in PARIS, FR
Mint condition Shipped from France The artwork is dated, signed and numbered base of the sculpture The artwork come accompanied with an original Certificate of Authenticity issued by the Studio of the Artist: CrazyNoodles and signed by the Artist This artwork come directly from the Artist's Studio : Studio CrazyNoodles This rare and important sculpture in the round is by famous Japanese Pop artist Hiro Ando. Before The Hunger Games, there was Batoru Rowaiaru (Battle Royale), the groundbreaking Japanese novel written by Koushun Takami. Published in 1999, the futuristic horror story tells of an authoritarian government that forces junior high students to fight to the death. The novel was quite controversial for its brutal themes and depictions of violence, not to mention Takami’s vivid imagining of the Japanese government as a police state with a sadistic streak. Perhaps not surprisingly, the novel was also hugely popular: It was quickly turned into a manga series and a feature film. It’s no wonder, then, that Battle Royale served as a galvanizing force for Hiro Ando, a Japanese artist frequently inspired by pop culture, manga, and the streets of Tokyo. Ando works in various media, including painting, digital media, video, and, most recently, sculptures, several of which are now on view at Galerie Jacob Paulett in Paris. Rendered in gleaming stainless steel, the quartet of sculptures in his “School Girls...

From the Endangered Species portfolio, which premiered in 1983. Warhol was commissioned by environmentalists and gallerists Ronald and Frayda Feldman to depict 10 endangered animals, bringing attention to their fragility. The US federal government had passed the Endangered Species Act (ESA) in 1973, making clear criteria for assigning the status of “endangered” to animals that had seen massive attrition of their populations. This designation has been adopted internationally and Warhol’s Endangered...
